Lucy MacLean is the main protagonist of the 2024 post-apocalyptic sci-fi television series Fallout, based on the video game franchise of the same name. She is a dweller of Vault 33 who is forced to leave the Vault on a mission to save her father Hank.
She was portrayed by Ella Purnell, who also voiced Gwyndala in Star Trek Prodigy. Younger Lucy was played by Luciana VanDette.
History[]
Early Life[]
Lucy was born in Vault 33 to the Vault's overseer, Hank MacLean, who was secretly a high-level Vault-Tec executive who had been cryogenically preserved for 200 years, and his wife, Rose. When Lucy was very young, Rose discovered the existence of the New California Republic on the surface. Realizing that Hank had been lying to her, Rose took Lucy and her younger brother, Norm and fled the Vault to the NCR capital city of Shady Sands. Hank would later bring back the children to the Vault and destroy Shady Sands with an atomic bomb. Due to her young age, Lucy did not fully remember any of this, though she did have some memories of her brief time living in Shady Sands with her mother. She would later be told that her mother died due to a disease outbreak in the Vault. Lucy would be raised by Hank and would come to fully embrace Vault-Tec's mission of repopulating the surface and restarting civilization.

Lucy is a firm believer in the expression "do unto others as you would have done unto you", referring to the expression as the "golden rule". Because of her strong belief in the golden rule, she always tries to help people even if it involves putting herself in danger. Her belief in the golden rule extends even to her enemies, as shown when she saved The Ghoul from turning feral, despite him having previously done various cruel things to her, including cutting off one of her fingers and selling her to organ harvesters. Due to her upbringing as a Vault dweller, Lucy is initially very naive about the Wasteland but gradually comes to understand and adapt to the harsh reality of the place. Despite witnessing the cruelty of the Wasteland, Lucy refuses to compromise her code of ethics. After discovering her father's true nature, Lucy's heart has definitely become more hardened than ever.

- Marksmanship: Lucy is shown to be a skilled markswoman, neutralizing several Raiders with her tranquilizer gun and later, killing a Feral Ghoul by shooting it while it was mid-air.
- History Knowledge: Lucy is shown to be knowledgeable on American history, working as a history teacher in Vault 33. She also shows to be knowledgeable on Pre-War technology, displaying a fair amount of knowledge about Maximus' T-60 Power Armor, despite having never actually seen one before.
