~ Luigi's subconscious to Mario in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team
Luigi is the deuteragonist of Nintendo's Super Mario franchise, as well as the titular main protagonist of the Luigi's Mansion series and the Mario and Luigi series.
He is the younger, yet taller twin brother of Mario, who constantly lives in the latter's shadow and, by comparison, is unappreciated by many residents of the Mushroom Kingdom. Nevertheless, Luigi is just as heroic as his brother, and frequently aids him on his many adventures, while also going on quests of his own. He is the apparent love interest of Princess Daisy, the ruler of Sarasaland, and the archenemy of King Boo, the evil and vengeful ruler of the Boos, who seeks to destroy Luigi at any cost.
Like Mario, Wario and Waluigi, he was voiced by Charles Martinet throughout the series up, with the exception of the Japan version of Mario Kart 64,Mario Kart: Super Circuit and in the first two Mario Party games, he was voiced by Julien Bardakoff. As of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, he is currently voiced by Kevin Afghani.
Luigi is thinner and slightly taller than his brother. As a twin, he wears the same clothes that Mario wears, but generally wears darker blue overalls, although that's not always the case such as in the Mario & Luigi series, while he also wears a green cap with the letter L printed on it and a clover-green long-sleeve shirt and brown shoes. Like Mario, Luigi has brown hair, blue eyes, and has a mustache that's much smoother compared to Mario's.
In the Mario TV series, Luigi wore green overhauls, a blue long-sleeve shirt, and had green eyes and black hair.
In the Anime Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach, Luigi wore blue overalls, with a yellow shirt, and a blue hat with a yellow letter 'L' on it.
Personality
Luigi is usually described as a coward and Mario's shadow. He is always in Mario's shadow and doesn't always get recognized by people easily, usually being referred to as Mario's brother or Green Stache, though despite that, he still has a fanbase as shown in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. While normally timid, clumsy, well-mannered, polite, calm, shy, and sometimes silly, Luigi always manages to summon up the courage to fight his enemies and help his brother out, particularly when he or anyone else is in need. When fighting or confronting his enemies though, Luigi hardly ever shows aggressiveness like Princess Peach and often treats his enemies like Waluigi and Bowser Jr. with kindness. On that note, he is often shown to be kind to anyone who isn't actively antagonizing him and those he cares about. He has a bit of a sibling rivalry with Mario from time to time, but the two have a close bond with each other and will do anything to help one another.
Despite his negative traits, Luigi is sweet, brave, optimistic, smart, cheery, and pure good. It's also hinted that Luigi has a crush on Princess Daisy, as the two are always paired when not with their respective partners.
Other Media
Mario & Wario
Luigi appears in Mario & Wario as the goal of a level, he removes the object from the heads of Mario, Peach and Yoshi.
Mario Party
Super Mario Party Jamboree
Luigi is one of the playable characters in the game and can be unlocked as an ally in Party-Planner Trek. He is found at Rainbow Galleria and the player must win a single puzzle-themed minigame to have him help fight against the board's boss. If the player is already using Luigi in Party-Planner Trek, a doppelgänger of Luigi created by Kamek's magic will fill his role instead. As a Jamboree Buddy, Luigi will make it easier to role big numbers.
Super Smash Bros.
Luigi appears as a playable character in the Super Smash Bros. games, where he is unlockable in every entry except for Super Smash Bros. for 3DS / Wii U. In Melee's Adventure Mode, he can be fought instead of Mario if the player reaches the flagpole and gets a number 2 alongside Princess Peach.
In The Subspace Emissary, which is the adventure mode of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, he is seen transformed into a trophy by King Dedede. He later gets a badge pinned to his nose when in trophy form by Dedede, which transforms him back to his normal self, and he, along with Ness and Dedede, go on and save the other fighters turned into trophies by Tabuu and convince Wario to join them. After Tabbu's defeat they are all seen standing proudly on the cliff at the end after saving their world from being assimilated into Subspace.
In World of Light, the single-player story mode of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, he is captured by Galeem alongside the other fighters, before getting recaptured by Dharkon and thus must be found on the map and defeated to be unlocked.
Powers and skills
Powers
Superhuman Strength: Luigi is able to lift and press objects that are several times his own weight, but not as much as Mario can. The exact upper limit of his strength is great. In Super Mario 64 DS, Luigi can lift King Bob-Omb. Luigi showed an even more impressive feat of strength during the fight with Bowser. Luigi could lift him by the tail, spin him around and then throw him, but not as effectively as Mario. Luigi spins Bowser around faster and farther with more spins.
Enhanced Jump: Luigi is extremely good at jumping, leaping at incredible heights and crushing innumerable enemies under him. His feet have great strength and he can jump higher than his brother, making him the best jumper in Mushroom Kingdom.
Superhuman Durability: Luigi has significant levels of durability, being able to withstand impacts from falling off great heights or being struck by opponents with superhuman strength.
Superhuman Speed: Luigi is shown to be fast enough to run up walls, across bodies of water for brief periods, and even outrun sound (in Super Paper Mario).
Superhuman Stamina: Luigi can continue various physical activities for indefinite periods of time.
Pyrokinesis: Luigi, in some games, can control fire, just like his brother. His version of fire is often green.
Electrokinesis: In games like Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and Mario Strikers Charged, Luigi can manipulate electricity.
Negative Energy: In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Luigi creates a zone of negative energy which can cause various effects such as damaging enemies and putting them into sleep.
Skills
Hammer Skills: Like Mario, Luigi can effectively wield a hammer as a weapon.
Paranormal Expertise: Luigi gained experience and knowledge to combat and detect paranormal activities, specifically ghosts with the Poltergust.

Trivia
In the game Nintendogs, one of the presents your dog finds on a walk is one with a green hat with an L on it inside. This is most likely Luigi's cap.
There is also a pink car with Peach in it on Nintendogs.
Luigi is found in Multiplayer as the rival in Tetris DS.
In the game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Luigi is seen in a ceramic window in Hyrule Castle.
In Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, when Mario wears the L Emblem badge, his clothes turn into the color scheme of Luigi's. It also happens in Super Mario Odyssey, as there is a Luigi costume for Mario to wear.
There are rumors that Luigi is in Super Mario 64, because of the courtyard star statue's text reading "L is Real 2401", although some read it as "Eternal Star". However, these rumors are proven false, as Miyamoto stated in an interview that Luigi was originally meant to be a playable character in the game, where he and Mario would start at separate points in the castle and work their way through, but due to hardware limitations, they were forced to remove Luigi. He did appear in the DS remake as a playable character though, along with Yoshi and Wario.
However, on July 25th, 2020, Luigi was found in the game's source code and his model was re-established.
In the early games, Luigi originally wore a white cap and overalls with a green shirt and in Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 2 and the DIC Mario cartoons, Luigi's outfit was changed to look identical to Mario's original color scheme from his debut in Donkey Kong, except with green replacing red, but the shirt and overall colors were later reversed to reflect Mario's current outfit since Super Mario Bros. 3, but with green replacing red.
Luigi was created to look like a green recolor of Mario, because of being a palette swap of Mario.
The music of Dark Hallways from Luigi's Mansion is considered to be Luigi's theme.
Although Charles Martinet is no longer voicing Luigi, Wario and Mario in games such as Super Mario Bros. Wonder, or WarioWare: Move It!, Martinet's voice will still be used for Luigi and Mario in the remaster of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon through re-used recordings from the original Nintendo 3DS version.
Mario, Luigi and Wario are the first three symbolic characters voiced by Kevin Afghani.
It’s unknown if Luigi tried to rescue Peach when Bowser captured her for the first time in Super Mario 3D Land.
Luigi and Mario's voice actor: Charles Martinet had a cameo in The Super Mario Bros Movie (2023) as the voice of Mario and Luigi's father.
