Lyle Smithsonian is one of the supporting characters whose only appearance was in Metroid: Other M. He is a member of the 07th Platoon, a small group of militants who were led by Adam Malkovich to search for survivors due to an incident on the BOTTLE SHIP and they ally with Samus Aran who coincidentally picked up the distress call from the large ship. Lyle has an intense fear and hatred of bugs and will kill them on sight.
Appearance[]
Like the rest of the platoon, Lyle primarily wears a blue, black, and gray standard Galactic Federation Power Suit with an orange visor. He is fair-skinned and has brown hair and light brown eyes.
Biography[]
Lyle first appeared with the rest of the platoon, encountering Samus Aran with Anthony Higgs recognizing her on sight and assures the rest of the platoon that she is not their enemy. Lyle suggested that they use their lasers to burn their way through, but then freaks out and kicks a Brug and opens fire frantically at it until James tells him to stop. As Samus tries to tell Adam about their mission, it wasn't long before several Brugs form together to form a Brug Mass which Adam orders them to take arms with Freeze Guns with Samus using her missiles to bring it down. After the battle, Lyle states that he is fine, though he complained about the presence of insect creatures. Adam then asks Samus for her cooperation on the condition that she abides by his orders. Lyle was assigned to investigate the Biosphere to secure the Exam Center.
When Samus and the 07th Platoon regroup at the Exam Center, Lyle was the only one who never arrived, leaving the others to wonder where he was as James asked Samus on his whereabouts. Later, after the Mystery Creature was driven away, James found Lyle dead and his body shredded by a monster. The cause of his death is a mystery, and it could be that he was killed by another hazard within the area. The Little Birdie was possibly responsible for shredding his corpse. Whether he was killed by The Deleter or by Little Birdie itself before it took on its adolescent form and eventually Ridley, his death would later be avenged after they are both slain by MB and the Queen Metroid respectively.
Trivia[]
- After the defeat of the Emperor Brug, Lyle can be heard in the background saying, "I'm fine, but did it have to be bugs?" to his fellow soldiers.
