~ Lylla's famous final words to Rocket Raccoon |
Lylla, also known as 8-9-Q-1-2, is the overarching protagonist of the 2023 superhero film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the third and final installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy.
She is a river otter who was cybernetically enhanced by The High Evolutionary to become a more intelligent life form, becoming a member of Batch 89 alongside Rocket, Teefs, and Floor. She also serves as Rocket's love interest in his backstory prior to her death at the hands of the High Evolutionary.
She was voiced and motion-captured by Linda Cardellini, who portrays Lila Barton in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Cardellini also voices C.J. in Regular Show, and Wendy Corduroy in Gravity Falls, and portrayed Velma Dinkley in the two live-action films of the Scooby-Doo franchise.
Personality[]
Lylla is shown to be kind and caring towards the rest of batch 89, and quickly befriends Rocket after seeing the latter has been hurt by The High Evolutionary's experiments, giving him a cloth to wipe off any blood. She is also has a romantic side to her, as shown when she embraces Rocket after being released from her cage.
Biography[]
She is first introduced during Rocket's first flashback, where he is thrown into a cage with the rest of Batch 89 after being experimented upon. There, she gives Rocket a damp cloth to clean his wounds with, before the rest of Bath 89 introduce themselves to him. She instantly shows kindness towards Rocket, and assures him that everything will be OK. She and the rest of Batch 89 decide to come up with names for themselves (Lylla, Teefs, Rocket, and Floor), thinking that they would need them when they go to the new world. However, when Rocket learns that The High Evolutionary had been lying to them, he quickly devises an escape plan, creating a makeshift key with a few scraps he'd been collecting. Rocket uses this key to open his cell door, before running over to Lylla's to get her free so they can escape. Lylla and Rocket both embrace each other, but this is short-lived as The High Evolutionary appears and shoots Lylla in the back, killing her. Her death causes Rocket to go into a near-murderous rage, mauling The High Evolutionary's face so it was no longer recognisable.
During the present, when Rocket flatlines and comes close to death himself, he's sees Lylla in the afterlife. Rocket, still feeling guilt over the deaths of Batch 89, breaks down, thinking he has no reason to live anymore. However, Lylla informs him that he does have reason to live, and convinces him to carry on with his life. Her life (as well as the lives of Teefs and Floor) are avenged when Rocket and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy take out The High Evolutionary's men, and take The High Evolutionary into custody on Knowhere.
