He is a U.S. Military officer turned head of Security and Containment Division and also the main representative of Requiem, working alongside Grigori Weaver, Elizabeth Grey, Oskar Strauss and Stoney "Raptor One" Maddox in stopping dimensional outbreaks. After helping the Requiem Strike Team and Samantha Maxis stop the Forsaken, he and the others were arrested by Edward "Eddie" Richtofen and Project Janus and sent to Blacksite 13. In 1991, he and the Ex-Requiem Crew join forces with William Peck and Maya Aguinaldo in confronting Eddie for his actions. Following the events at Janus Towers, the crew find themselves inside the Dark Aether and encounter versions of Richtofen, Tank Dempsey, Takeo Masaki and Nikolai Belinski.
Mackenzie Carver was born around the 1930s to unnamed parents, with his father having served in the U.S. Military during the Second World War. Once the appropriate age, he followed in his father's footsteps and joined an unknown military branch around the 1950s due to his service in the Korean War. Carver continued his career into the Vietnam War, playing a major role in Operation Apache Snow. Despite suffering from psychological trauma from his experiences, he was able to reach the rank of major. After the war, he joined the United States Department of Defense and acted as a liaison between them and the Central Intelligence Agency.
In 1983, the CIA's science and technology division created the Office of Requiem, a science division tasked with investigating, studying and containing dimensional branches across the world. Upon its formation, Carver personally requested to join as the head of containment and security.
In 1991, Carver and the ex-Requiem crew are greeted by Maya Aguinaldo and Dr. Peck, with the latter explaining his plan to find and confront Richtofen. However, Peck further explains that in exchange for breaking them out of Blacksite 13, they must help Maya find her brother Nathan on the island. Agreeing to the terms, Carver, Weaver and Grey join forces with Maya and find her mutated brother confined. Carver and the crew break him out, which ends with them having to kill a willingly hostile Nathan. Afterward, the crew learn that Project Janus scientist, Dr. Revati Modi, is preparing to leave to Japan with warheads and decide to stop her.
Using the A.I. system Synaptic Algorithm Module (S.A.M.) and defusing the island's destruction sequence, they prevent Modi from leaving. This is turn brings in Patient 13, who proceeds to kill Modi an destroy the warheads. The crew then kill the mutated patient, and return to the communications room and learn from S.A.M. that Richtofen was searching for the item called the Sentinel Artifact at the Principality of Avalon. Traveling there, they reunite with Ravenov, now working as an enforcer for the French Syndicate, and brief him on the situation.
Despite Carver and the team discovering they were slowly dying from aetherium exposure, they continued their plans to stop threats coming from the Dark Aether. The crew later traveled to Urzikstan to test an aetherium device, which resulted in their deaths. In 2021, their corpses were found by Victor Zakhaev.
