Maho Nishizumi is a major character in the anime and manga series Girls Und Panzer. She is the older sister of main protagonist Miho Nishizumi.
She is voiced by Rie Tanaka and Kimberly Prause in the series Japanese dub and English dub respectively.
Profile[]
Maho was born on July 1st of an unknown year in Kumamoto, Japan. She is the heiress of the Nishizumi Style. She was formerly a 3rd-Year student at Kuromorimine Girls' Academy, as well as the overall commander of the school's Sensha-dō team. She operated a German Tiger I during her time as Commander. She is now a student at the University of Lower Saxony in Germany.
Biography[]
Background[]
Maho was the first child of Shiho Nishizumi and Tsuneo Nishizumi. With the former being a well respected Commander and champion in Sensha-do and the latter being a skilled tank mechanic, the foundation for Maho being involved in the sport was instantly laid upon her birth. Growing up, Maho was kind hearted and enjoyed playing with her younger sister, Miho. In her early teen years, Maho became heavily involved in school Sensha-dō, gaining the respect of many of her peers.
After finishing middle school, Maho attended Kuromorimine Girls' Academy. During her second year, she became the over-all Commander of the school Sensha-dō team because of her skill and upbringing. She would later be joined by Miho, who would become Vice Commander, later much to Erika's displeasure.
During the grand finale of the 62nd National High School Sensha-dō Tournament, Maho and Miho were initially performing quite well against their opponent, Pravda However, after a rain storm hit mid-battle, an avalanche knocked one of her teammate's tanks into a river. Miho would abandon her flag tank to save the teammate. This led to the flag tank being shot, subsequently giving the victory to Pravda and putting and end to Kuromorimine's 9-year long winning streak.
Girls und Panzer[]
Maho and Erika in the show's opening.
At the time of the main show, Maho has entered her third year of Kuromorimine and retains her position as Sensha-dō Commander. After the events of last year's tournament, the Nishizumi sisters were separated after Miho's trauma from the incident lead her to resigning from Sensha-dō and departing to Ōarai Girls' Academy, which did not have an active Sensha-dō team when she made the choice to transfer.
Before the start of the 63rd tournament, Maho gives an interview to a sports journalist, who asks about her strategy in Sensha-dō. Maho states that she never surrenders or runs away no matter what challenges he faces. Several days later, Maho and Erika encounter Miho and the rest of the Angler Fish team at a tank themed Cafe in Oarai. Maho greets Miho, and stoically states she didn't expect her to get back into Sensha-dō. A fight breaks out between Erika and the Angler Fish team. Maho eventually deescalates it by leaving and requesting Erika follow her.
Maho and Erika attend the Ōarai vs Saunders match. Maho watches the match in silence, quietly observing Miho's tactics as Erika makes petty jabs at Ōarai. After the match concludes in an upset victory for Ōarai, Mako Reizei learns that her grandmother had collapsed and had to be hospitalized. Wanting to see and care for her grandmother as quick as possible, Mako prepares to swim to the hospital, to the rest of the Angler Fish team's shock. Maho intervenes, suggesting that Mako use Kuromorimine's school helicopter, claiming helping others is a part of Sensha-dō. Before Erika, Mako, and Saori take off in the school helicopter, Miho thanks Maho for helping her friend, the latter walks away and does not respond.

Girls und Panzer das Finale[]
By the events of Das Finale Part 1, Maho has since graduated from Kuromorimine and is a student at the University of Lower Saxony. With the Nishizumi heiress gone, Erika and Koume are appointed Commander and Vice Commander respectively. Not confident in her own skills, Erika calls Maho one night for advice for the upcoming 41st Winter Continuous Track Cup. Maho advices her mentee to develop her own strategy rather than trying to follow in her own foot steps. As of the present, Maho has yet to reappear in Das Finale.
Appearance[]
Maho's profile on the official Girls und Panzer website.
Maho is a tall light-skinned woman in her late teen years. She has a brown bobcut with messy front bangs. Her eyes are brown. Her regular school uniform consists of a gray sweater with a black undershirt, as well as black skirt and black shoes. Her Sensha-dō uniform is a black jacket with red outlines on the collar and sleeves. Her skirt and undershirt are also red. Her boots are dark green and finally she dawns a black side cap.

Maho is initially portrayed as cold and stoic, similar to her Mother. However, when she's not around her Mother or her teammates, Maho is revealed to be a soft spoken and kind-hearted woman who cares deeply for her family and teammates.
Relationships[]
Family[]
Shiho Nishizumi
Unlike her younger sister, Maho seems to have a good relationship with her Mother. Since Maho stayed in Kuromorimine and Sensha-dō while Miho resigned, Maho appears to be Shiho's "golden child". They both share a strong work ethic and dedication to their family history.
Miho Nishizumi
Maho has a strong, albeit distant relationship with her sister. Before Miho's departure to Ōarai, Maho would teach and encourage her younger sister. After Miho left, it is implied they didn't communicate often or much at all. This changed when Miho became Commander of Ōarai's newly rebirthed Sensha-dō team, meaning she'd be on an opposing team to her sister. Maho keeps an eye on Miho's progress and victories in her new position. When they face each other in the season finale, Maho seems determined to beat Miho. After the match, she shows great pride toward Miho and congratulates her on the upset victory.
Allies[]
Erika Itsumi
Erika is Maho's second in Command. Maho acts as a mentor of sorts to Erika, though she does not reciprocate Erika's intense admiration. They cooperate closely during matches. In Das Finale Part 1, after Maho leaves her post as Commander to study in Germany, she attempts to get Erika to develop her own strategy now that she has succeeded her as Commander.
