Mai Sakurajima (桜島 麻衣, Sakurajima Mai) is the main heroine of the Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai series. She is an actress and model and attends Minegahara High School, such as her boyfriend Sakuta Azusagawa.
She was voiced by Asami Seto in Japanese and Erica Mendez in English.
Appearance[]
Mai is an attractive girl of above average height, with long black hair and large blue eyes. She's quite eclectic with her outfits, wearing both casual and elegant ones on occasion.
Personality and History[]
Serious, intelligent, strong-willed and polite, Mai isn't harsh by default, but she can be easily annoyed and come across as somewhat snappy or violent when Sakuta teases her, doing or saying something lewd. Mai is a very nice, kind, sensitive and helpful person. She has a soft spot Kaede, Sakuta's younger sister. She is genuinely affectionate and kind to Sakuta as well, and despite their mutual teasing (and her calling him a pervert for his lewd jokes), she often says that she loves him more than he thinks. Her kindness was shown when she denounced the hospitalization incident as false for Sakuta's sake, and when she gave Kaede a dress both as a gift and to at least spark interest in returning to the outside world. She also helped Sakuta studying and, given that he lost sleep to avoid erasing Mai's existence from his mind, she gave him pills to allow him sleep and avoid being a burden to him.
Mai is also an attractive third-year who attends the same high school as Sakuta and a notable child actress. By the start of the series she's on an indefinite hiatus from her work and despite her celebrity status, doesn't try to stand out at school much. She's sensitive and polite, but also fond of teasing Sakuta, who teases her as well, and while she may appear a bit harsh and bitter at the beginning, given the facts that led to her hiatus, she's actually a really nice, kind-hearted and good person, with a strong sense of justice.
Mai, indeed, is extremely selfless, and this is best shown when she sacrifices herself to save Sakuta from being hit by a car and allowing an I'll girl, Shoko, to survive, becoming her heart donor instead of Sakuta and giving up her life for others. Sakuta, however, is able to travel back to future and save her.
