Maid Marian is a supporting character on Once Upon a Time. She was the wife of Robin Hood and mother of their son Roland.
She is portrayed by Christie Laing.
Before the Curse[]
Joining the Merrymen[]
Robin was unjustly going bankrupt by the corrupt Sheriff of Nottingham (presumingly under Prince John's orders) while he and Marian were in love. The Sherriff had his eye on her too, but she chose Robin over him. After returning from the land of Oz on a quest, Robin and Marian, along with many allies, have revolted against the sheriff and his forces, founding the Merry Men. Marian was proud of Robin's revolution, robbing the corrupt rich to aid the poor and swore she is with him every step in the way.
Soon, The two outlaws were married, Marian got pregnant and then couple were blessed with a son, Roland.
Arrest and execution[]
During the Evil Queen's wrath, Snow White was on the Run accused for false crimes. Marian, like all the villagers, believed Snow was innocent and refused to tell the queen her whereabouts when interrogated. She got arrested and later got murdered. Aside from making sure her family stay safe, Marian had sacrificed herself to ensure Snow White's safety.
Altered timeline[]
During her accidental time travel, Emma Swan, accompanied by Hook, see Maid Marian getting arrested by Regina. Emma tried to go help her, but said no, for they must not intervere with timeline and must leave her to her destine fate.
Later on, when Emma Swan got arrested by Regina and her black knights and taken away from King Midas' royal ball for helping Snow White escape, she got locked in the dungeon of her castle. There she finds herself in a cell next to Maid Marian. Emma recognized her and explained that she saw her at the village with Regina and wanted to help her badly. Marian assured that it is alright, for if she tried to free her then, she would've ended up in the dungeon sooner. Marian explained that she was locked up because she knew where Snow was hiding and refused to tell her whereabouts, believing her innocent, much to Emma's shock. Marian informed that they are to be executed the next day.
Emma, who had her father's mother's ring, which Snow lost back at the Ball in Midas' castle, looked at it depressed. Marian sympathetically informs tha being away from family is a terrible thing. But all was not lost for Emma. By remembering what Neal taught her, she used metal wires from spoons to pick the lock of the dungeon door. It worked. Marian encourages her to save herself, but Emma frees her too (which disrupted the timeline again) as Charming (who the pirate asked for his and Snow's help) and Hook, along with Red came to rescue her.
Unfortunately, Snow was caught by the Queen & her guards, and everyone at a higher window watches in horror as Snow appeared to be burned alive. But Snow survived, faked her death and escaped by turning herself into a ladybug with the dark fairy dust that she was going to use on and defeat the Evil Queen. Marian along with everyone else observes Snow changed back alive and well by the Blue Fairy. Like everyone, namely Emma, Marian was so relieved.
Knowing that she disrupted the timeline by altering Marian's fate, Emma decided that they should take her back to the future with them. Marian thinks they are crazy and refuses, but Emma knocks her out. But before they can head for the Dark One's castle, Emma and Hook go out to follow and help Snow and Charming from the trolls, for Snow used dark fairy dust on herself which was meant for the trolls like in the original timeline. But after the time travelers left, Zelena, who survived Rumple's killing and had followed them through the time portal too, approached Marian and murdered her while she was still knocked out. Then transformed into Marian, took her place and impersonated her since.
