Makoto Date is a major character in SEGA's Like a Dragon (Ryū ga Gotoku, formerly known as Yakuza in the west) franchise. He is one of the three tritagonists (alongside Shun Akiyama and Taiga Saejima) of the Yakuza Saga and an supporting character in the Like a Dragon Saga.
Date is one of the most famous police detectives in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, and is one of Kazuma Kiryu's closest friends and his long-time major ally. Date is greatly known for his determination on helping those in need, even willing to rebel against the police establishment if needed and willing to help people like Kiryu, despite his status of being a legendary yakuza.
Portrayals[]
In Japanese, he's voiced by Kazuhiro Yamaji, who's best known for his roles as Silver Fang from One Punch-Man, Hit from Dragon Ball, and Cid Highwind from Final Fantasy VII and Kingdom Hearts II.
In English, he's voiced by Bill Farmer, who's best known for voicing Goofy and Pluto from the Disney franchise, and Hop Pop Plantar from Amphibia.
Appearance[]
Date is a tall middle aged man with sunken cheekbones and thick eyebrows, and a black messy slicked hair.
He usually wears a khaki trench coat over a white dress shirt, with gray slacks, a leather belt with a silver bucket, and black leather oxfords. On special occasions, whenever he tends at New Serena, he wears a brown apron instead of his trench coat.
Personality[]
Date is fiercely known for being a busy man, but is incredibly intelligent, being capable of quickly detecting lies and contradictions in someone's testimony. Date is also a determinate man, willing to even rebel against the system he works for in order to seek the truth, and is too stubborn to know when to give up.
Date is gravely loyal to his friends, especially when it comes to Kiryu, as he is willing to help him out on anything he needs, no matter how dangers occurs in Kiryu's path.
