Mamiru Kai, later known as B5 is one of the two main protagonists (alongside A4) of the I SPY manga one-shot by Tatsuya Endo. She's a sheltered schoolgirl who falls in love with a kind salaryman she met in a train. Unknowingly to her, the man was a elite japanese superspy known as A4, who was in a mission to capture an information leaker in the Japanese Ministry. By using her hunting abilities, Mamiru Kai decides to go after the enigmatic secret agent in order to confess her feelings for him.
Personality[]
Due to her upbringing as a Matagi in the rural mountains, Mamiru is a socially awkward and clumsy girl who has a hard time adjusting to a life in the big city. According to A4's report of her, she has average grades, but not many friends, indicating she has a hard time fitting in. Mamiru shown to be extremely shy and awkward when it comes to romance, due to being raised in a seemingly conservative environment, to the point that she gets involuntary nosebleeds at the mere mention of romance or any kind of racy topic. Her years spent training with her grandfather gave her a wide array of abilities, such as being able to recognize people by their scent, which she uses to identify A4 while disguised.
Background[]
At age 9, Mamiru's parents died in an accident, leaving her an orphan. She was taken under the guide of her Matagi grandfather and moved to the mountains of Akita with him, where she would spend the majority of her childhood. At one point, Mamiru moved to the capital in order to attend highschool, where she would live in the dorms.
Trivia[]
- Mamiru's name comes from the reading of the kanji "垣間見る," meaning "to peek", reflecting her stalking habits.
- Mamiru can somewhat be considered an early version of Yor Forger from Tatsuya Endo's hit manga series Spy × Family, as they are both socially awkward, but extremely physically strong dark-haired girls with a stunted upbringing who have feelings for a stoic spy who puts his work above everything else. Additionally, much like Yor, Mamiru is shown to be a terrible cook.
- Her codename "B5", much like A4, comes from the name of a paper size.
