Despite his reluctance, John went on to fight the superhero on two occasions, which ended with Spider-Man removing the spores from Jameson's body.
Becoming Man-Wolf[]
Despite losing his increased strength, Jameson continued to go on space missions for NASA, being sent on a secret mission to the Moon to gather rock samples. While gathering, John discovered a gemstone and decided to bring it back to Earth, and managed to keep it for himself. Unbeknownst to Jameson, the gemstone was the Godstone, which would grant its wearer the powers of the Stargod during the full moon. Following his first transformation, Jameson discovered that he couldn't remove the gemstone from his neck, forcing him to turn every three nights when the moon was full. Upon one transformation, he attacked his then fiancée and Spider-Man, whom managed to remove the pendant from Jameson when he reverted back to his human form.
John initially recovered from the incident, but when Michael Morbius found the gemstone in the Hudson River, decided to have the astronaut turn into Man-Wolf once again for his own scheme. Jameson managed to escape from Morbius during his battle against Spider-Man, traveling to Georgia where he became went on a secret mission for S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury. During the mission, Jameson found himself in the Other-Realm, where he learned he was successor of the realm's ruler, Stargod. He then freed the people of the realm, using the gemstone to teleport them and himself from its ruler Arisen Tyrk. However, the gemstone started to poison him while he became more savage during his transformations. He was placed into cryo-sleep by his father until he was released by Spencer Smythe, but had the gemstone removed from his body by Spider-Man and Dr. Curt Connors.
Getting a second full recovery, Jameson joined the Avengers' support crew as Captain America's pilot, but later quit due to his growing attraction to Diamondback. He then became the Ravencroft Institute's chief of security under Ashley Kafka's direciton, whom he soon started dating. While at Ravencroft, John found himself a victim of Spider-Man foes, such as Mad Jack and the Carnage symbiote taking him over. After being fired following the Chameleon's escape, John broke up with Ashley and began a romantic relationship with Jennifer Walters. The two soon married in Las Vegas, but Jameson transformed into Man-Wolf due to being given a substance created by Alistaire Smythe. Jennifer later learned that her former teammate Starfox influenced her feelings for John, and that Jameson wanted to convince her to just be her human self. The two ultimately agreed to an annulment, and Jameson traveled across the Other Realm as Stargod.
