Man "Manny" Heffley is the secondary antagonist of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid franchise by Jeff Kinney and is a minor character in the spinoff book Diary of an Awesome Friendly Kid: Rowley Jefferson's Journal.
He is the toddler-aged younger brother of Greg and Rodrick Heffley, and he usually tends to be mischievous (due to countless things happening throughout the series because of him). Eventually, he saved dozens of people from drowning to death by resourcefully using the family's RV as a makeshift bridge.
Personality[]
Manny is a very silly, curious, and sentimental toddler. On the other hand, he is incredibly spoiled and overindulged by his parents and has the same focus on immediate gratification that most toddlers naturally possess (and throws tantrums and likes to mess with people in mostly harmless ways because of that), but sometimes taking it too far and sometimes coming off as wanting absolutely everything for himself.
Despite his young age, he has shown immense intelligence and used it to manipulate everything to his advantage, even using his age as an excuse on one occasion when he broke Greg's game. He often enjoys toying with Greg, knowing he can get away with it. Manny also has a strong sense of self-preservation and even snapped after being neglected and scared out of his mind and, as Greg put it, decided it was every man for himself during Cabin Fever (although in his defense no one was taking care of him or explaining the snow situation to him in any tangible way, and worse, why no one, Susan especially, batted an eyelid to the toddler for several days in a row during a life and death crisis is frankly anyone's guess). And despite how smart he is, his natural infantile naivety does show, for instance when he thinks he's sick because he spurted juice from his nostrils whilst laughing and when he thought he should wash his hands in the urinal. The Third Wheel making his character nothing but a consistent punching bag really speaks for itself as well.
Despite his lack of social and emotional intelligence, he has done a few sincerely kind things such as helping the Heffley family get home in The Long Haul and saving multiple lives by creating a bridge from a truck in The Deep End and when he and the rest of his family tried to cover his alleged crime to save from from going to jail in the Cabin Fever movie. Additionally, he does love his family despite them having their differences and he also sincerely fawned over the Heffleys' pig due to having never bonded with an animal before. And overall, he's prevented far more damage than he's ever caused.
Trivia[]
- Despite his brattiness he's the only Heffley family member to have done heroic deeds since his older brothers have only done nice deeds at best.
