He is voiced by the series' Parker Simmons as an adult and Colleen Clinkenbeard as a child.
He is a tall black cat with a red adventurer outfit, whiskers protruding from each side of his face whenever he tilts to that side and green eyes with black pupils. As a kitten, he looked smaller and he wore red overalls instead of the usual red cape.
He is a complete braggart who seeks legendary adventures above all else, a desire that prompts Adorabat to idolize him and desire to follow in his footsteps. Much to Orangusnake’s mixed emotions and Badgerclops’ amusement, this is all a facade to hide him for what he truly is: an insecure family man who seeks to make his family proud of him which stems from childhood traumas such as falling into trash as a kitten. He also cares deeply for certain people in his life and when push comes to shove, he knows when to do what’s right.
As a boy, Mao Mao had great dreams of being a legendary hero just like the rest of his family. He greatly looked up to his father and went to great lengths to try and impress him. However, his father was too busy training his sisters to ever notice him, causing Mao Mao to have a constant need to be praised. As a teenager, Mao Mao met and befriended a dog named Bao Bao, who Mao Mao loved as his best friend. During an adventure with a scar-faced monster, however, Mao Mao ended up losing his tail when Bao Bao was distracted by a butterfly, causing Mao Mao to lose his innocence and begin traveling alone. At some point after this, he met Tanya Keys, and the two were partners for a brief amount of time before having several disagreements on the law, causing them to break off their partnership.
After falling out with Tanya, Mao Mao eventually met Badgerclops, who was the muscle for a criminal gang known as the thicket thieves at the time. After the rest of the thieves were defeated (or ran off, depending on who's telling the story) Mao Mao and Badgerclops decided to become partners and became best friends to this day.
After this, the two began doing everything together, from traveling, to cooking, to fighting monsters and criminals, even coming up with custom moves together as they continued on as friends.
Pure Heart Valley
Their lives as traveling heroes would eventually come to a halt, however, when the two decided to attack a sky pirate ship, led by Orangusnake, a criminal who Mao Mao once defeated with Bao Bao long ago, unbeknownst to Mao Mao. Mao Mao and Badgerclops snuck aboard their ship, where Badgerclops tried to convince Mao Mao to just let them go due to the crew's frightening numbers. Mao Mao, however, refuses and uses Badgerclops' robot arm to shoot the ship down, causing several of the pirates' crew members to fall to the ocean, leaving the most incompetent members of the crew the only ones left. Mao Mao and Badgerclops escape the ship and fly away, crashing into the Ruby Pure Heart and cracking it, causing its defenses to wither and leave the valley exposed to monsters and other criminals.
The two crash land in the valley's town square, where they meet the sweetie pies living there, including the town's King Snugglemagne, and Adorabat, a peg-legged bat who instantly idolizes Mao Mao. After learning of the Ruby Pure Heart's current state, Mao Mao fears that his work to becoming a legendary hero was all for nothing, as he is now bound to protect the sweetie pies since he exposed them. After he and Badgerclops fight a monster together, the sky pirates return to steal the Ruby, but Mao Mao, Badgerclops, and Adorabat all go and fight them off together. During their fight, Mao Mao learns from Orangusnake that the Ruby Pure Heart, and Pure Heart Valley, are actually legendary places, making Mao Mao realizes that he will also be legendary as its protector. With the help of Badgerclops and Adorabat, they crash the sky pirates' ship again and return to the valley as heroes. Mao Mao is named Sheriff and protector of Pure Heart Valley, and Badgerclops and Adorabat become his deputies.
The three are currently protecting Pure Heart Valley from the Sky Pirates, giant monsters, and other petty criminals.
- In the teaser pilot, he was an abrasive jerk but this changed in the full series as he went from said jerk to an adventurous yet caring braggart who desires to prove himself to his family.
- According to Mao Mao's fans, he sort of appeared in the OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes episode "Crossover Nexus" in the background as one of the many Cartoon Network Heroes that was summoned and defeated by Strike.
