Marco Bott is a supporting character in the manga and anime Attack on Titan. He is a kindhearted young man who hopes to join the Military Police so he can serve next to the king.
He was voiced by Ryōta Ōsaka in the original Japanese version and Austin Tindle in the English dub.
Personality[]
Being idealistic, Marco always tries to have a positive impact on other people and the world around him. This passion and charisma allows him to inspire others to overcome they're insecurities. He is greatly respected by his classmates, who consider him to be a natural leader suited to the Military Police. Many commented they would gladly join an anti-titan squad led by Marco. However, Marco always claims that Jean Kirschtein is the better choice for a leader.
He is capable of preserving order among the other trainees, whether resolving arguments or keeping them calm during battle. Even when frightened, he still retains a relatively calm demeanor.
Marco has no problem speaking up when he feels that something is unjust or wrong. But he rarely come across as brash or pushy, as his sensitivity and insight guide him to speak in ways that resonate with others.
He also seems to have an uncanny ability to pick up on people’s underlying motivations and beliefs and this together with his altruism, makes Marco a kind supporter that puts the values of the group over his.
Story[]
Background[]
Marco was born inside of Wall Rose in a town named Jinae. He left his village at the age of 13 to enlist in the military, pursuing his ambition to become a member of the Military Police Brigade.
104th Training Corps Arc[]
Marco is first seen during the inauguration of the new Trainees, where they have to explain their motives for joining the military. When it's Marco's turn, he optimistically tells his instructor that he plans to join the Military Police so he can work loyally for the King, but his instructor refutes, coldly telling Marco that the King has no interest in him.
Later that day, during sunset, Marco watches together with Eren, Armin, Mina and Connie, Sasha having to run laps as punishment for stealing food and eating during the inauguration. When Connie mentions where her hometown is, Marco focuses his attention to Eren and asks him where he's from. Eren tells Marco and the rest that he and Armin are both from Shiganshina District. Marco is slightly shocked from hearing this, but Connie is immediately interested and asks if he saw the Colossal Titan, which Eren confirms.
During the evening in the cafeteria, Marco is gathered with other Trainees who ask Eren numerous questions, but when Samuel asks Eren what a normal Titan looks like he becomes physically ill. Marco then tells his fellow Trainees to stop asking Eren things about his past, as he assumes that it's too painful for him to think about, although Eren immediately pretends to be fine.
