Marcus Cole was a secondary protagonist featured in the third and fourth seasons of the Babylon 5 television series.
Marcus was portrayed by Jason Carter.
Marcus had a brother named William. As a young man, Marcus was heavily involved in the family business and served in Earthforce during the Earth-Minbari War. Following the war he returned to help prop up the family mining company. After the death of his parents, William had joined the Anla'Shok (Rangers), becoming one of the first humans to do so after Jeffrey Sinclair opened the membership to humans. William tried to get Marcus to join, but Marcus refused to listen. When his brother was killed in a Shadow attack Marcus joined the Rangers to continue his brother's work.
After joining the Rangers Marcus became a student of Jeffrey Sinclair. After a year of study, he learned the Minbari language. Marcus also learned the Denn'bok fighting pike directly from Durhan himself.
In 2260 Marcus was assigned to operate out of Babylon 5, becoming close to the command staff on the station as well as Ambassador Delenn and her aide Lennier. He developed a number of resources in the station's population, particularly with the denizens of Downbelow. His contacts proved invaluable when Ambassador Delenn was kidnapped. Often using his wits, Marcus was not afraid of physical combat and would respond with insults when threatened.
Marcus fought in the last Shadow War and in the Earth Alliance Civil War that followed, often working with Susan Ivanova as an interpreter between her and Minbari crews. He became very close to Ivanova, falling in love with the young woman.
When Ivanova was fatally injured in the closing days of the Earth Alliance Civil War, Marcus sacrificed himself to save her life, using an alien healing device to transfer nearly all of his life energy to her. Ivanova had Marcus put into cryonic suspension until he could be restored. He would spend the next several hundred years in cryonic suspension until the information was found to restore him. Marcus had a clone of Ivanova created so that he and Ivanova could be together.
