What is it that makes us human? It's not something you can program. You can't put it into a chip. It's the strength of the human heart. The difference between us and machines.
~ Marcus's narration.

Marcus Wright (born on August 22, 1975) is the main protagonist from 2009 film Terminator: Salvation.

He is portrayed by Sam Worthington, who also portrays Jake Sully from Avatar the film (2009).

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers:[]

  • Technorganic Physiology: After donating his body to Cyberdyne Systems for scientific development, Marcus Wright was transformed into a Hybrid, a being that's half-man, half-machine. Possessing all the attributes of a T-800 while retaining his organic parts, such as his heart.
    • Cybernetic Metal Skeleton: Now devoid of his bone skeleton, Markus now has an exoskeleton made of a highly durable Coltan alloy that is extremely resistant to damage from falls—as demonstrated in his fight against the Transporter, where the latter falls and bounces violently in the water before fainting and rising again intact—and from heat, as demonstrated in his fight against T-RIP, where the latter only burns his hand, not his exoskeleton.
    • Cybernetic Strength: Markus's Cybernetic Coltan exoskeleton gives him a great deal of strength, enough to fight off a T-RIP with his bare hands, as well as to neutralize several individuals without difficulty.
    • Cybernetic Mind: In addition to having a hybrid body, Markus' mind has also been enhanced to include additional enhancements, so he's able to remain sharp at all times, even in the midst of battle, Markus always knows exactly what to do, even when his reaction time is shockingly brief.
    • Vigorous Heart: As stated on many occasions, Markus' heart is very fast, beating at rest at numerous 100 hundred beats per minute, which may be due to the fact that his organs need more red blood cells at all times, or that thanks to the science that has modified his body his heart is more efficient than normal and can function at maximum capacity to permanent perfection.
    • Self-Sustenance: Now a hybrid, Markus has no feeding or hydration needs whatsoever, having gone many days without eating or drinking and still moving as if he'd eaten for ten.

Abilities:[]

  • Mechanic: Markus was able to repair a car to make it rock n' roll, even though it was very rusty and had experienced a Nuclear Holocaust.
  • Throwing: Markus is very good at throwing items, having thrown with precision to destroy a Skynet drone.
  • Fighting: Markus is an excellent fighter, having successfully neutralized several individuals single-handedly.
  • Driving: Markus is an exceptional driver, having managed to drive a heavy truck efficiently while he and his friends, were being chased by Skynet and its machines, as well as by a ten-plus-meter conveyor robot.

Flaws/Weaknesses:[]

  • Land Mines: Because of his metallic skeletal structure, Markus is vulnerable to the magnetic mines that the Resistance installs. When he passed close to a mine at the entrance to a Resistance base, the metal in his leg triggered the mine and detonated it. It didn't kill him, but Markus was stunned, and his skin badly damaged, with the inside of his body visible.
  • Organic Parts: Although Markus is very durable, his organs remain a major weakness, as during his fight against the T-RIP, the latter punched right through his heart, which neutralized Markus, it didn't kill him permanently, as John Connor managed to reanimate him a few minutes later after freezing the T-RIP using Liquid Nitrogen.
  • Remote Control Chip: Beyond the illusion of free will instilled in Markus, the chip in the back of his neck allows Skynet to remotely control him and make him follow a program/directive without him even realizing it. Having unconsciously led Kyle Reese and John Connor straight into the jaws of the beast, Skynet's artificial intelligence will reveal to him that he has fulfilled his program to "perfection". Nevertheless, he managed to free himself from it after pulling it out of his head.

Equipment[]

  • Remington M870: Markus uses this shotgun at the same time as Kyle to fire powerfully at their enemies, the first time when he disarms Reese, when Reese points it at him and says the famous phrase "You point that gun at someone, you'd better be ready to pull the trigger".
  • Military Trench-Coat: For most of the time, Markus wears a blue trench coat with the Resistance symbol, which he picked up from a corpse when he woke up from a Skynet warehouse raided by the Resistance.

Biography[]

Marcus Wright is a man who was on Death Row in 2003 for multiple homicides and was executed shortly after signing his body over to Dr. Serena Kogan. Somehow, he woke up 15 years later in the wastelands the USA have become, right in the middle of the war between human survivors and machines.

Personality[]

Marcus doesn't see himself as a good man. He killed a police officer and his brother, and has a hard time dealing with the guilt. However, he is a rather unambiguous good guy in every other capacity. This trait is as much Marcus's personal story to forgive himself and save his humanity as it is a story about saving humanity itself.

Terminator: Salvation[]

Marcus returns to life as a Terminator, when he awakens, he takes the clothes of a deceased resistance soldier and finds Los Angeles in ruins. he helps the Resistance fight Skynet machines. After a long battle, John Connor remains hurt, and Marcus decides to donate his heart to him.
