Margaret Roberts is an occasionally mentioned, and later recurring character, in the Barbie franchise. She is Barbie, Skipper Roberts, Stacie Roberts, and Chelsea Roberts's mother and George Roberts's wife.
She has appeared in Barbie: Dreamhouse Adventures and briefly in Barbie: Starlight Adventure (albeit as a hologram), has been mentioned briefly in Barbie: Video Game Hero, and has also appeared in multiple Barbie books, including Barbie Goes to a Party, which was released in 1964, and The Fairy Princess, released in 1977.
Margaret and George got married 19 years ago and have four daughters: Barbie, Skipper, Stacie, and Chelsea. They managing moved to Malibu, California before Chelsea was born. They became neighbors with Ken. At some point, they became neighbors with the Reardon family (Poppy, Whittaker, and their son Trey.) Described by Barbie as a "computer genius", Margaret designed a prototype integrated renewables power grid for an entire city. Almost ten years after moving to Malibu, Margaret and her family designed a new Dreamhouse that was programmed by Margaret to have fancy gadgets and features.
"Welcome to the Dreamhouse"
Margaret and her family move into the Dreamhouse with help from Ken. George wants to decorate using a mummy statue, but Margaret dislikes it and wants to put it in storage. Suddenly, the Dreamhouse starts to malfunction, so Margaret initiates an emergency shutdown. She wonders what the problem is and does some diagnostic tests, but everything seems fine. The Reardons have the Roberts' moving van towed, so there is a pile of moving boxes next to the Dreamhouse.
Stacie thinks mummy has cursed them, but George admits he forgot to tell the Reardons they were moving that day. Margaret gets annoyed, and George says she made a mistake with the Dreamhouse's programming. While Margaret and George argue, Barbie makes everyone else continue moving boxes. Stacie and Ken still think the mummy has cursed them. They go outside to find things to protect them from the mummy, but George repeats that there's no curse and Margaret probably made a mistake with the programming. Margaret gets annoyed again.
Suddenly, lightning strikes, but everyone is locked outside due to the Dreamhouse door denying them access. Margaret starts to doubt herself and wonders if she mis-programmed the house, but George comforts her. Ken says he left the back door open, so people move boxes inside while Margaret checks the house's access panel. She fixes some wires and discovers that the Dreamhouse malfunctioned because a squirrel chewed the wires. When it starts to rain, they put umbrellas over their moving boxes, and Margaret and her family get settled into their new Dreamhouse.
On Chelsea's 6th birthday, Margaret and George are about to take Chelsea to the mall. Chelsea's sisters decide to re-decorate Chelsea's clubhouse as a surprise, so Barbie phones Nikki and Teresa for help. Before they can move the clubhouse to the front yard for cleaning, Margaret, George and Chelsea catch them lifting it. Margaret says hello to Nikki and Teresa, and says she is about to go to the mall with George and Chelsea.
George gets excited because he can tell they are planning a surprise. Barbie and the others lie that they were only lifting the clubhouse to find one of Nikki's earrings, and they put it down. George applauds them for lying so well, and Margaret says they're leaving. Chelsea says that George told her she could make siren sounds out the car window all the way to the mall, and Margaret thanks him sarcastically.
While Margaret, George and Chelsea are gone, the clubhouse gets taken away after Barbie and the others leave it by the curb. Margaret returns with George and Chelsea with cupcakes and ice cream. Barbie and the others eventually find the clubhouse, re-decorate it, and present it to Chelsea.
"Family of the Year"
The Roberts and the Reardons are competing to see who can impress the Vaughans, the producers for the Family of the Year contest, and become the ideal family for the year. Things don't go as planned and after Gloria thinks she saw a rat (which was not a rat at all), she and Cameron go to the Reardons.
Margaret and her family planned to do a song and dance number about what they mean to each other. The Reardons decide to steal the idea and at a beach gathering hosted and reported by Gloria, they sing the song. Gloria and Cameron decide the Roberts aren't worthy after being impressed by the Reardon's fake perfection and Barbie tells her family that it really doesn't matter who wins, as long as they remember what family truly is.
