Margie (サリー, Sarī, Sally) is the tritagonist of the Japanese exclusive film Animal Crossing: The Movie (Gekijōban Dōbutsu no Mori). She is one of Ai's best friends since the latter moved to Animal Village. She aspires to pursue a career as a fashion designer.
Personality[]
Margie is described as passionate and a go-getter who is inspired by many things around her, though she is also somewhat shy around new people. She is often coming up with ideas in clothing designs and often draws in her sketchbook and wanted to become a fashion designer. She will not hesitate to call out on Rosie about spreading rumors regarding the relationship between Apollo and Whitney.
Appearance[]
Margie is a white elephant with red and yellow stripes on her hands, ankles, tail, and around her head. She also has pink circles on her cheeks and has blue eyes and has one eyelash on each side. She wears a Hot Spring Shirt, a pink shirt with yellow flowers on them.
Biography[]
Margie first meets Ai when she arrives at the Able Sisters to show her latest designs to Mable and Sable and apologizes for interrupting them during their business hours. She only smiles at them while Ai is busy doing deliveries from Tom Nook. Sometime later, she formally interacts with Ai by giving her delivery bike an extra push and offers to help and while Ai tried to decline, while she insists that she is strong and wishes to put it to good use. They come across a cherry tree and she explains that she can only find them in Animal Village and begins discussing cherry pie philosophy where one has to keep using their talents otherwise it would be forgotten and shakes the cherry tree to make one of the cherries fall and shares it with Ai and they loved it. Ai and Margie introduce themselves. She is briefly seen helping Ai with gardening and shows her sketch book to her containing ideas for clothing designs and explains that becoming a fashion designer is her dream and hopes that people around the world would enjoy her designs.
During the summer, Margie, Ai, and Rosie relax at the beach where the former is drawing her ideas. As Rosie talks about Apollo and Whitney dating, Margie calls her out for spreading rumors about personal matters, which annoys Rosie who is bored and wonders when they are going to swim. Margie explains that she is very busy and Mabel and Sable would select the best design, so she needs to try her best while Ai praises Margie's enthusiasm for her dream, while Margie does display some self-doubt if she is good enough, while Ai assures her that her drawing are great. After Margie wraps up her drawing, she tries to close the beach umbrella, but it gets blown away by the wind, but they giggle in amusement. Later during the summer, they run into Yū and Alfonso who were happy to have found a fossil and Rosie suggests finding more at a beach cave which they travel into by boat, when Rosie guesses going right in one of the paths, they find themselves in a rough rapids where they were presumable knocked out, though the boat was intact, and Yū managed to find a pile of fossils, but Ai finds a Seismosaurus fossil which is the only fossil missing from the museum and Yū tries to excavate it, but has trouble climbing up. Margie warns that the rocks are crumbling and as the cave collapses, Margie asks where the exit is and Rosie points ahead which is the opening and they managed to escape alive, and Yū tries to go back, but as Margie tries to reason with him that going back is too dangerous, the entrance is blocked by a boulder. Days later, Margie and her friends attend the Fireworks Festival where she continues drawing new ideas for designs and explains that she could not stop thinking about the fossil they discovered earlier and once the image is in one's head, she jots it down and she is unstoppable. K.K. Slider arrives for the performance and offers to take requests. Margie quickly requests him to play "K.K. Bossa" tonight. Margie is noticeably teary-eyed as she listens to the song. As K.K. Slider ends, everyone applauds his performance and the fireworks show begins and everyone watches in awe. After that, everyone begins to enjoy the festivies, Margie admits to being a bit embarrassed as she explains that as she listened to K.K. Bossa, she felt alone and he was singing just for her. Yū can be seen purchasing a golden slingshot from Crazy Redd though Rosie is unsure and their enthusiasm for it, was to their chagrin and the fireworks continue. After the end, Ai admits that she was a little jealous of Margie being talented and hopes that she would find her dream.
After autumn begins Margie later moves away to pursue that dream, without telling Ai, with only Rosie being the one to deliver the news to her about the farewell party she missed, which saddens Ai. When Margie sends a letter to Ai it is delivered by Pete the pelican which has her explaining why she didn't tell her and it was so that so she wouldn't take the next step into her dream with tears in her eyes.
During the Winter Festival, Margie returns to Animal Village for the holidays, butafter Gulliver's UFO crash lands into the village which results in the gears scattering around the area, she went to help them and as Ai, Rosie, Yū and Alfonso tried to move the boulder that blocked the entrance, Margie surprises them by being able to move it with ease and they all embrace her and she explains that she is on holidays so she took the opportunity to return. Yū enters the cave ahead and since the rocks have hardened during the winter, it made it safer for climbing the Seismosaurus, while everyone watches in feared anticipation, even as he almost slipped down one of the Seismosaurus's ribs and he continues climbing and he barely managed to reach it, but he slipped and managed to get a hold of the Seismosaurus's jawbone and falls off of it with only a branch softening his fall and ends up dropping it and Alfonso ends up catching him, but causes the ice he's standing on to break. Ai rushes for the falling gear and Margie steps in by sliding on her stomach and pushes her further, allowing her to catch it. Alfonso and Yū return to the surface unharmed and praises Ai, who tells him that it was the first time she saw his real face. As they return the gears to Gulliver, several UFOs appear, the one Ai had began to morph into an alien life-form, who appears to thank Ai before it joins the other UFOS, and it draws Ai's face as a constellation, which Margie remarks to be the gift of the stars, and Toritimer announces Ai as the winner of the Winter Festival for the alien's constellation, and for the first time, Ai feels like a true resident of Animal Village.
During the credits, Margie can be seen jotting down ideas like normal while also designing new outfits.
