Thank god I got to see you. There's so much to explain but we don't have much time, the artifact is the gateway from hell, much like the one Betruger opened with the one in the Delta Labs. The artifact, though, as long as it is in our dimension there's always the danger of being awaken and-well, another invasion.

Marine? Marine, welcome home.
~ McNeil to Marine.

The Combat Marine Engineer is the main protagonist of Id's Software 2005 action horror game Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil, the expansion of Doom 3.

He is the leader of the UAC marines to investigate a strange signal only to become its protector who will later follow his own battle against the forces of hell.

History[]

Ressurection of Evil[]

2 years after the Mars incident, the engineer travels to the red planet, leading his own team to investigate a mysterious signal. During their search, a marine discovered The Artifact and, upon touching it, unwittingly doomed his team—reopening the gates of Hell. Now burdened with guilt, the engineer, under the guidance of veteran researchers McNeil and Cloud, vowed to right his wrongs and fight for humanity’s survival.

Descending into the very depths of Hell, he battled relentless demonic hordes until he finally faced Maledict. In a climactic struggle, he forced The Artifact into the beast’s maw, annihilating its existence and severing its ties to the mortal world.

As darkness consumed him, the last thing he heard was McNeil's distant voice calling his name. His fate remains unknown to this day.

Trivia[]

  • The fate of the marine is left ambiguous, since the players had theorized that the ending had depicted that the marine has died in the struggle to defend Earth along with McNeil since her voice, and they have both ascended to nothingness as the screen whitens. However, is it also possible that he survived and the call from McNeil is to alert that he is now at safe.
