Brothers! The heretics clamor for a taste of victory! But we will defy them this day as we have defied them for ten millennia. We are the sons of Ultramar, servants to the Emperor, and guardians of the Imperium. Let these wretches feel the wrath of ancient vengeance!
~ Clagar's speech on Demerium.

Calgar: Forgive me, brother, that it took me so long to bring you home.

Titus: My Lord, that-
Calgar: Fierce was my wrath when I learned of your detention. In their arrogant suspicion, the Inquisition failed to recognize the truth, that no evil will ever overcome a devotion such as yours.
Titus: Thank you, My Lord.

~ Calgar apologizing to Titus for his unjust treatment.

Lord Marneus Calgar is a major protagonist in Warhammer 40k, serving as the revered Chapter Master of the Ultramarines Legion. One of the greatest Astartes to have ever lived, he is a legendary warrior who's name brings courage and valor across the stars and is one of the oldest living Ultramarines still in service.

The true scope of Marneus Calgar's legendary deeds is documented within the Fortress of Hera, Macragge's imposing fortress-monastery. Deep within its vaults, meticulously kept records detail the achievements of the Ultramarines' greatest heroes. A staggering twenty-eight volumes are dedicated solely to Marneus Calgar, a number surpassed only by those chronicling the exploits of Roboute Guilliman himself.

Since ascending to the position of Chapter Master, Marneus Calgar has consistently demonstrated his tactical brilliance across countless campaigns. He values his troops, refusing to sacrifice them needlessly. He understands that while strategic planning originates with the commander, ultimate victory hinges upon the efforts of the soldiers on the ground. His warriors follow him not merely out of obligation, but driven by an unwavering loyalty born from his inspiring presence.

Beyond his renown as a strategist, the Lord Macragge is a warrior of immense courage. He spearheaded the initial breach of the Hive Ship Behemoth Primus, a groundbreaking assault against the Tyranid menace. The records also recount how he single-handedly defended the gate at the Siege of Zalathras against a relentless Greenskin horde for an entire solar night and day. Always leading from the front to galvanize his warriors, Calgar, when the moment is right, personally leads his Ultramarines into the heart of the enemy, extinguishing all opposition with ruthless precision.

Even with the return of Roboute Guilliman, the citizens of Ultramar recognize their profound debt to Calgar. They see him as the embodiment of humanity's resilience and determination. In Marneus Calgar, they have a leader who will fight tirelessly, for the Lord Commander of the Imperium, the immortal Emperor, and ultimately, for the survival of Mankind itself.

He was voiced by Stewart Scudamore.

Personality[]

Calgar is one of the greatest stalwart defenders humanity has ever known. From his tactical brilliance to his overpowering might, his greatness runs as deep as his undying loyalty to the Imperium. A valiant warrior, Calgar leads from the front, charging fearlessly headfirst into battle alongside his brothers and never backing down from a fight. His heroic deeds and feats of strength are innumerable, and he is one of the greatest holy fires that mankind can bring to bear. He also cares deeply about his battle brothers and does not tolerate conflict from within his Legion nor treachery from outside forces, as he was extremely upset when he learned of just how unjustly Titus was treated for his supposed crimes and did his utmost best to make amends to him.
