Robots want to live too...
~ Marty's final message of revenge on Mr. Wright (Episode only).

Marty is the deuteragonist of Goosebumps thirty-fifth book, A Shocker on Shock Street. He is Erin Wright's best friend, and got invited to the tour of horror movies (more especially, "Shocker on Shock Street" movies) her father made. They both find out that it was not what it seemed. He is also the deuteragonist of the Television and graphic novel adaptations.

History[]

Book[]

Marty is Erin Wright's best friend, despite they constantly annoying each other, and their favorite activity is to watch movies from the "Shocker on Shock Street" horror movies. While he is just as scary as Erin, he always pretend to be cooler and braver than he actually is, to annoy Erin. Erin' father, Mr. Wright is an thematic park engineer, and a robotics master, and he made a Shocker on Shock Street thematic tour, and asked Erin and Marty if they wanted to be the first ones to test and evaluate it. They both accepted and next day they were in the Hollywood sign, going to the thematic park. They were totally alone, entered the tramcar and the first attraction they visited was the Haunted House, in which everything went well, and they both got scared and enjoyed it. After it, they stopped in a part of the forest with many bushes where they got autographs from different monsters. Despite being only actors in costumes, they noted that the costumes were too realistic. Then, they both went to the Cave of the Living Creeps, in which they got scared more then they with falling and huge insects, like spiders, and disgusting white worms. Then, their cart stopped in a part of the cave, in which where they encountered and fought several Giant Praying Mantises attacking them. They distracted them by stepping heavily on the tips of their lungs, and then scaped by a small hole in the back of the cave.

They then found the actual set of the movies, the actual Shock Street. Despite Erin being full of it and already wanting to go out of it, Marty was excited about it, despite the dangers they both faced, as he wanted to see the real Shock Street more than anything. He entered in the Shock Street's cemetery, being reluctantly followed by Erin. Suddenly, as Erin was trying to convince Marty to get out of the tour, Green hands got out of the graves and grabbed Erin and Marty. Erin scaped by getting off her shoes, and scaping the hands, and gave her idea to Marty, which he used to scape the hands too. But then the green heads popped out of the graves, and Marty ran desperately to the iron gate of the cemetery, along with Erin, and they jumped it. They were getting out of Shock Street, but then they stepped in a soft mud, and realized that it was quicksand. They almost got swallowed by the quicksand, but were saved by a man and a woman with wolf heads, the Wol Boy and Wolf Girl, that, despite saving them, started to pursue and try to attack them. Marty climbed up a brick wall to escape the wolves, and helped Erin do the same, with she having a very close call with one of the werewolves almost biting her feet. They both found the tramcar they were initially in, but when they succeeded in going into it and scaping the wolves, they discovered that the tramcar was filled with skeletons, that tried to grab them. They jumped out of the car, to escape them, the tramcar trespassed an wall as if it was a ghost. They didn't know how to escape, but a man that claimed to be a director of a film that they were making, by filming Erin and Marty's reaction. He said that they should simply go to the mansion in the top of the hill, and they'd find Mr. Wright and could get out of there. Marty started running towards the mansion, that was a place called Shockro's Mansion of Shocks, and anyone who opened the door would get shocked with 100.000.000 million volts, but the director said that it was just special effects that were deactivated. However, as Marty ran, Erin saw a power rope in his back, and realized he was a robot, fake just like everything else. Marty opened the door and was struck with a bright lightning bolt, before Erin could warn him, and as she tried to wake him up, she also passed out, only to them both be examined by Mr. Wright, who revealed that they were both robots created to test his theme park. A employee carried the Marty Robot away, while Mr. Wright carried Erin.

Episode[]

The episode's history is basically the same from the book, but some parts, like the Giant Praying Mantises part, and the ending was also changed. Erin and Marty suddenly woke up after being deactivated, and menacingly walked to Mr. Wright's direction, saying robots want to live too.

Personality[]

Marty is snarky and annoying, always saying to Erin he's braver then her and making things to scare her. However, in the end, he likes his friend, and care about her and tried to help her scape the park.

Trivia[]

  • His name is changed to Josh by unknown reasons in the graphic novel adaptation.
  • In "Goosebumps HorrorTown", a game in which you have to play different storylines from the books, Marty's role is omitted in the "Shocker on Shock Street" storyline, but an original character named Marty, but now as a bully, features in.
