~ Master Chief, upon encountering his remains

Staff Sergeant Marvin Mobuto was a minor character in Halo: The Flood. In one page, he was revealed to be the first Reclaimer to be guided by 343 Guilty Spark to reclaim the Index with their inherited ability to work Forerunner technology. Master Chief found his chopped-up remains and marveled at how far he had gotten with insufficient gear. With the same mission of reclaiming the Index, it is unknown what he planned to do with it. The Index would've wiped all life from the galaxy, a fact that Guilty Spark kept hidden due to his rampancy. Cortana is what prevented Master Chief from activating the Index.

History[]

Heroic Acts[]

Mobuto participated in the Fall of Reach, which ended in a failure for humanity with the planet Reach being glassed. He participated in defending the UNSC Pillar of Autumn from Covenant Forces before it crash-landed on Halo Installation 04. He was found by 343 Guilty Spark, wandering on a structure opposite of where his body would eventually be found by Master Chief.

The Library[]

At some point, Mobuto was detached from his squad and was contacted by 343 Guilty Spark, the monitor of Installation 04. The monitor teleported him to the Library and guided him towards the index, with the sentinels assisting him. He did not perish immediately - but in the face of a horrifying new enemy unknown to him, he succumbed to the pestilent Flood. His body was ravaged until it was unrecognizable, and too mutilated to be turned into a combat unit. Master Chief stumbled upon the body and found it his strength to get as far as he did profound, with the Chief reaching the end of his endurance even with SPARTAN augmentations. He inspected the dog tag and remembered his name, inspiring him to complete his mission.

Trivia[]

  • Mobuto cannot be seen in Halo: Combat Evolved. The image of his supposed remains is fan speculation that is not confirmed.
