Masachika Kuze is the male main protagonist of the comedy, romance, light novel, manga, and anime series Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian. He is a teenage high school student at Seiren Private Academy and the older brother of Yuki Kuze.
He is voiced by Kōhei Amasaki at his current age, by Mayuko Kazama as a child in Japanese, by Aaron Dismuke at his current age, and by Erin Lundquist as a child in English.
Appearance[]
Masachika is a good-looking young man of slender build with medium-length black-brown colored hair with often a small cowllick at the top and one tousled that frames his face. He wears his school's standard beige-colored male student uniform comprised of a blazer with light brown and white trim along the edges with a kaki-colored weather and a white shirt under, paired with a black tie. His outfit completes with dark gray trousers and brown shoes
Personality[]
Masachika generally portrays himself as a lazy and laid-back young man who spends his time hanging out with his friends or playing mobile games at school. Although he is carefree, joking around, and generally avoiding responsibility, Masachika hides a more vulnerable side, filled with self-doubt and self-criticism. Although he typically maintains a cool facade and confidence, Masachika is capable of experiencing deep emotions, including envy and embarrassment, similarly to Alya.
At home, he is known by others to watch animes at night and cares little about his grades at school, even when he is at the bottom due to his laziness, despite possessing the potential to climb to improve. Along with his grades, he also has no interest in gaining attention and prefers to plot in secret thanks to his sophisticated and charismatic personality. Out a few facts about himself that Masachika chooses to keep as hidden is fluency and comprehension in of the Russian language that unfortunately unbeknownst to Alya who decided to frequently express herself in Russian, especially her feelings.
Background[]
Born into the Suou family and later having a little sister Yuki, Masachika was hailed as a child prodigy in the Suou family. Under the tutelage of his maternal grandfather Gensei Suou, had his talents nurtured. However there would be compilations in his life as parents's marriage was breaking apart, his father was always working and away causing his parents getting into arugments, and have to to live with the strictness and the burdens of the expectations that Gensei was putting on Masachika. And during the time with his parents arugements would he sent to his parental grandfather's house, Kyoutarou Kuze where Masachika would spend time watching several Russian movies together.
During the time of his elementary school days, he met a Russian girl who lived next to the park of his grandfather, Kyoutarou's house. Wanting to talk to her, Masachika heavily studied Russian. After learning how to speak Russian, he often spoke with her after school.
Trivia[]
- The series was originally going to be written in the isekai genre, where the female protagonist (possibly as Alya) would be obviously reincarnated into another world where she speaks Japanese to the male protagonist (possibly sa Kuze). Unbeknownst to her, the male protagonist also knows Japanese due to being reincarnated as well. This version was later scrapped, and written into what is now known as the romcom series, as the author realized that there are more than just one language in the world.
- Although not exactly seen, it has been stated that he has a scar on his shoulder that he received in the past after saving a girl from being attacked by a dog.
