Masaharu Kaito is the deuteragonist of the Judgment duology, the spin-offs of Sega's Like a Dragon franchise. He is also the titular main protagonist of Lost Judgment's DLC The Kaito Files.
He was an ex-yakuza turned detective. He was a member of Matsugane Family, but after getting expelled from yakuza, he worked with his best friend Takayuki Yagami in his detective agency. Just like Yagami, he posseses spectacular detective skills. In contrary of Yagami's precision and analytical thoughts, his superior detective skills were contributed by his spectacular sense.
He was voiced by Shinshu Fuji, who also portrayed Masumi Karizaki from Kamen Rider Revice. In the English dub, he was voiced by Crispin Freeman.
Appearance[]
Kaito has a tall and muscular build, cropped black hair, and a chinstrap beard. A small scar cuts through his left eyebrow. When he was younger, he sports longer, spiked hair and a clean-shaven face. He is often seen wearing an orange floral shirt with gray pants, which is called the "Trendy Shirt Style" in game.
Unlike Yagami, Kaito can change his attires in The Kaito Files freely without being restricted by story, via the disguise anywhere ability in the upgraded skill tree.
Personality[]
Despite his tough appearance, he was actually a really friendly, humorous and easy-going person who really cared for his loved ones and tried his best to protect them. As many times he was proved to be a selfless person, for instance, he took the fall of the robbery orchestrated by Hamura and willingly expelled himself to protect his brother Higashi. Also years ago, when Yagami was seen by him, Yagami was hostile to him at first, nevertheless, he still tried to get along with him and they eventually became good friends and trusted partners.
Unlike Yagami, whose sense of justice was a bit rigid, he was a bit more open-minded and flexible, upon Yagami and Kuwana's conflicts on their justice ideals, Kaito reassured both of them, stated neither was truly right or wrong, hence he made both of them seeing each others' motives and their flaws.
He was also faithful to his lover Mikiko, as he tried his best to make an honest living out of her. After defeating Kyoya Sadamoto, her evil husband who orchestrated the breakup between her and Kaito, he then accepted an honorably duel from Yasutaka Shirakaba, who happened to have crush on Mikiko, to get her and her son back on his side, with Shirakaba also happily accepted his defeat.
Abilities[]
His fighting skills was mostly contributed by his superhuman strength and his superior sense. He posseses two seperate fighting styles, Bruiser and Tank, which strongly resembled Kiryu's old style before his Dragon style, Brawler and Beast. While his friend Yagami's combat mainly focuses on precision and agility, Kaito focuses more on brute strength.
In contrary to Yagami's detective skills, which was based on his analytical thinking and precisive decisions, his skills were based on his superior senses which can quickly detect suspicious surroundings, as seen on Kaito Files' gameplay, where he can just easily send surrounding hidden objects easily and quickly via his superior Primal Nose and Primal Ear.
