Master Chow is a supporting character in Illumination's 12th feature film, Minions: The Rise of Gru. She is a masseuse who befriends the Minions and teaches them her kung-fu techniques for them to protect their "mini-boss."
She is voiced by Michelle Yeoh who also played Wai Lin in Tomorrow Never Dies, Philippa Georgiou in Star Trek: Discovery, Soothsayer in Kung Fu Panda 2, Ying Nan in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Yuki in Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank, Evelyn Wang in Everything Everywhere All at Once, and Airazor in Transformers: Rise of The Beasts.
Appearance[]
Master Chow is a somewhat elderly Asian woman who has a short and pudgy stature. She has a large, gray bouffant, fair skin complexion with makeup and brown eyes. Master Chow also wears a white shirt with blue linings, silver earrings, blue shorts and black shoes.
Personality[]
Chow is a good-natured, serene yet fierce woman who used to be a brilliant martial arts master but decided to quit the lifestyle to be a regular masseuse. Although she is a bit reluctant at first, she agrees to help teach the Minions her techniques once she realizes why they want to learn kung fu: to save their "mini-boss".

Master Chow demonstrates her kung-fu prowess on one of Wild Knuckles' goons.
Master Chow is a very calm, albeit very deadly woman who has advanced martial arts knowledge and can beat up Wild Knuckles' goons without breaking a sweat. It is a given that she has found her "inner beast." Chow is very good at teaching others as she used to be a kung fu instructor. Additionally, she is exceptionally fit and can pull off impressive acrobatic maneuvers.
Likewise, Chow is shown to be a great chiropractor.
Story[]
Wild Knuckles' henchmen pursue after the Minion trio after they trespass in his home trying to rescue Gru. They end up in Chinatown where an acupuncturist named Master Chow watches the henchmen beating up the Minions whilst treating a patient. Deciding to confront the henchman for "picking on little guys" and also calling her an "old lady", Chow displays impressive kung fu skills and fights them off. The Minions ask Chow to teach them her skills, but she says she is retired from that life. However, when the trio flash their puppy eyes at her, she relents.
Chow trains the Minions in martial arts, but they end up hurting themselves more than they do any learning. They quickly manage to step up their skills, but Chow says they only passed basic training. Unfortunately, the Minions have already fled and are on their way to save Gru. She then exclaims that they are screwed.
Chow later appears at Wild Knuckles' funeral. It is unknown what happened later, but it's presumed that she died of old age sometime before the events of the Despicable Me films.

- Master Chow serves as a foil to Wild Knuckles in intentions and relationships:
- Both of them are mentors who train the protagonists. However, whereas Wild Knuckles is a former supervillain who teaches Gru how to be a better villain through hands-on experience, Chow is a massage therapist who teaches the Minions how to be better protectors through martial arts training.
- And while Wild Knuckles forms a grandfather-grandson relationship with Gru, Master Chow sees the Minions as regular students.
- The way that Chow kicks various fruits at one of Wild Knuckles' goons with deadly efficiency and speed is similar to one of Chun-Li's special moves.
