Maxwell "Max" Justice is the main protagonist of the 2002 racing video game Hot Wheels: Velocity X. He is the teenage son of Dr. Peter Justice. He is voiced by David Kaufman, who also voiced Danny Fenton.

History

Max was racing on of his rivals when he gets a distress signal from his home in Monument City. After beating the racer, he returns home to find the place ransacked and his father's robot, Gearhead restrained.

Shortly afterwards, an alarm at the Hot Wheels Engineering Plant was sounded, prompting Max to drive over there. However, he was too late as the factory was destroyed by the time he arrived.

Later, the Hot Wheels Tire Factory was also robbed and planted with another explosive device. However, Max managed to retrieve the bomb and drop it at an abandoned building.

Max then learns that the gang that destroyed the Engineering Plant also made off with a bunch of cars along a series of disks belonging to Velocity X and a HW Prototype 12 car. One of the members of said gang, Conrad "Nitro" Byrne claims to have the disks and challenges Max to a race. However, it is later revealed that Nitro never had the disks on him and that they were in possession of someone in Turbine Sands.

While in Turbine Sands, Max learns that the Velocity X disks contain a new kind of super fuel allowing Hot Wheels cars to go twice as fast with no problems, and that the stolen HW Prototype 12 runs on urianium. After stopping a stolen train and retrieving uranium from a courier, Max encounters Backroads Belcher, another member of the gang who was in charge of mining the uranium. After delivering the uranium to Belcher, Max beats him in a race and battle. Max then learned from Belcher that Max's girlfriend, Sparky was in Crankshaft Bay noticing suspicious activity.

After Max managed to get in contact with Sparky, he learns that she had some pieces of a map and left them on a roller coaster, some of them had the name Otto Von Diesel. After protecting Sparky from her attackers, the map pieces were taken to Gearhead for anaylizing. Max then retrieves a car containing some backup files for Velocity X. He is then approached by Fast Lane Frascatti, who challenges Max to another race, with the teen reigning victorious.

By that time, Gearhead had finished anylizing the map, which shows a meeting taking place at Burnout Glacier. Max then learns that Otto Von Diesel was once a member of his father's engineering team, but was fired for bypassing safety procedures and disappeared. Max follows Otto to his volcano base and destroys a rocket. Max is about to collect a gas canister and delivers it to Simon Slick Deluca before beating him in a race. Afterwards, Slick left a data cube in his car containing more information on Velocity X.

Dr. Justice's goal of Velocity X was to create time travel, but decided to cease the project due to the risks of altering time, but Otto wanted it to keep going. Otto wants to stop the production of Hot Wheels cars using the time traveling vehicle, but all he needed was the Tempural Transmission. Max is then approached by Rupert Jacoby, Otto's right-hand man, who challenges Max to a race for the transmission and the Velocity X disks. However, after beating Rupert, Max only got the disks while Otto's gang stole the transmission.

Max then tracks the whole gang to Monument City's Underworld where he manages to disable Nitro, Belcher, Fast Lane, Slick, and Rupert before confronting Otto himself. After defeating Otto, Max then decides to use the HW Prototype 12 to race his opponent.
