Dr. Max Patel is a supporting character in James Cameron's Avatar franchise. He was the scientist of the Avatar program who was responsible for humans to synchronize with their avatar bodies and provide technological support.
He is portrayed by Dileep Rao.
Biography[]
Avatar[]
Max Patel was a human scientist apart of the Avatar program and served under Grace Augustine. On the day Max met both Jake Sully and Norm Spellnan, Max explained what an avatar was and showed them their respective avatars. After linking Jake's mind to his avatar, Max told Jake to calm down and settle into his avatar body. However, delighted at being able to walk again, Jake disobeyed Max and ran out of the building.
A few days later, Max saw Jake was giving information about the Na'vi to both Colonel Quaritch and Parker Selfridge. He informed Grace about it, causing her team to relocate to Site 26.
After Jake and his friends betray the RDA and we're imprisoned, Max and Trudy busted them out. Max stays behind and acts as a spy for the RDA defects and their Na'vi allies because Jake needed somebody who he could trust. Max informed Jake, Norm, and Trudy that Quaritch and the RDA were planning an attack on the Tree of Souls.
Because of his deeds, Max was one the few humans allowed to stay on Pandora after the Pandoran War. He pointed a gun at Parker as the humans were being sent back to Earth.
Avatar: The Way of Water[]
By the time of the sequel, Max became the chief scientist at the High Camp and the leading experts in Pandora's research. However, he was without the RDA's resources, so they were forced to conduct their independent research.
When the RDA returned, Max and his team relocated with the Omatikaya clan into deep caverns of the in the Hallelujah Mountains. However, the Sully family were forced to leave to protect their family and the clan as Max and the others remained in the Hallelujah Mountains, but maintained contact.
After Kiri fell into a coma due to a seizure, Max and Norm were summoned by Jake to the lands of the Metkayina Clan, where the Sully family relocated. When none of their methods worked, Norm and Max were Neytiri and Ronal. Before they left, Norm warned Jake that if Kiri ever connected to the tree of souls again, she could die.
