May is the tritagonist of the RPG mobile games Shadow Fight 2 and Shades and one of the two overarching protagonists (alongside Shadow Mind) of their sequel, Shadow Fight 3.
In Shadow Fight 2, she used to be one of the companions of the hero named Shadow, who was possessed by the energy that resided inside the Gates of Shadows. At one point, she got kidnapped by the game's main protagonist Titan, was brainwashed into trying to kill Shadow. However, Shadow managed to defeat her and break her free from Titan's control, which made him determined to stop Titan once and for all. After Shadow defeats and kills Titan, he too breaks from the possession of the energy and the Gates break down once and for all, then he and May both share a hug and goes away.
Between the events of Shades and Shadow Fight 3, she and Shadow gets married, and she became pregnant, unaware that another entity was growing inside her womb along the child. Eventually May became ill, and Shadow becomes aware that the entity's influence was making her ill, and he tried to attack it. The entity, named Shadow Mind, summoned its shadow beasts to protect May and the unborn child. Shadow managed to kill all but Shadow Mind, and also accidentally killed May in the process. Blaming Shadow Mind for the accidental murder, he swore to destroy Shadow Mind, and locked it inside the Sphere until it found a way to do so. However, through a stranger, he came to learn that the grave where May was buried was a portal through time. He travelled in the future to destroy the whole world and create another one where May would be alive and well.
In the epilogue of Shadow Fight 3, May was again alive due to Shadow Mind wishing to create a new world with May in it. In this world, May is leader of the Resistance who was working to stop the evil version of her child, known as the Stranger, who became the Master of the Worlds with every dimension under his control, and was willing to reopen the Gates to destroy it yet again.
Appearance[]
In Shadow Fight 2, May is the one of the two characters who have their pupils visible in the entire series. Her eye color is light green. She has orange hair that bangs in the front. While under Titan's control in Act VII, her eyes are completely white just like the demons in the game, her skin is pale white and her hair color is red-orange.
In Shadow Fight 3, in Marcus's Plane, May is a spirit, a lonely voice that merged with shadow energy. In this state, she appears as a slim woman with a cyan-colored body, even her hair. Her face is also not visible. She wears an outfit that reveals her belly and also has some devices attached into it. A notable part of her is a pendant, which resembles the faction Heralds' logo. In the epilogue, after the real Shadow's Descendant had conquered the world, May had made an appearance with her real physical form. Similar to her spirit form, May has a slim body, fair skin tone, and orange hair (similar to her appearance in Shadow Fight 2). She wears an outfit that is colored black and purple, with devices attached to it. She still has the Heralds' pendant.
Personality[]
May has a kind, cute and caring personality, especially towards Shadow whom she later ends up with at the end of the series. She is brave and also intelligent in several aspects, especially in weapons. She is also quite vocal regarding her opinions and speaks her mind freely.
After getting seized by Titan, her personality completely changes and she becomes insane and ruthless. Shadow faces a hard time fighting with her aspects, especially strategically, because she is greatly aware of Shadow's fighting style, having seen all of his previous fights. After being defeated by Shadow, she transforms back to her normal state.
In Shadow Fight 3, she cared about both versions of child and also Shadow Mind. Despite the dark version of her child being the most evil, she reveals to him that she cared for him nevertheless how he turned up. Before the Stranger dies as he consumed high amount of shadow energy from the Gates, May hugs him and the Stranger also hugs her back as he disintegrated.
Trivia[]
- May was one of the main characters in the previous installment, where she, alongside Shadow and others, journeyed through six provinces to defeat the menacing Demons and seal the Gates of Shadows.
- May is named after a month in the calendar that shares the same name as her. This habit "naming female characters after a month" eventually became a "tradition", as a female character in Shadow Fight 3 was named after the sixth month (June), and the storyteller of Stories Mode in Shadow Fight 4: Arena is named after the fourth month (April).
- The infection is most likely the shadow following both Shadow and May at the end of the cutscene after defeating Titan in Shadow Fight 2.
- The reason why May has a pendant with the Heralds faction symbol on it, which suggests that she is a Herald, is yet clearly explained. It is very likely that being the core of the Void Room, May's consciousness has merged with many other Heralds who lived before to create a hive mind for the Room.
- May's pendant might also not represent the Heralds fraction symbol, but represent the Hero/ the Stranger's first word.
- According to the Synchronizer, the Hero/ the Stranger never spoke until they were 4 when they pointed at a dragonfly and said "dragonfly". Upon hearing this, May cried and could have made the pendant as a memento of it.
- The disease that May got while pregnant is also the same disease that infected Moira when shadow beasts attacked her homeland - The Scourge.
- This also explains some of their weird powers and abilities.
- In the Gates of Shadow's plane, May was revealed to be a demon that came from the Shadow World.
- A dark spirit called The Blackness in Shadow Fight 2 Underworld takes the appearance of May, with some injuries, torn clothes, loose hair with branches and a pair of black hand with long claws.
