Maya Aguinaldo was born to a Filipino father and an Australian mother, she took after her father's career as a smuggler, operating in the Southeast Asia area. After her father died, Maya continued his business alongside her younger brother, Nathan, for several years, delivering all types of contraband, including drugs, weapons and refugees. However, Maya and Nathan were requested by The French Syndicate, a criminal organization in Avalon, to smuggle several refugees to them for handoff. When the refugees started to go missing, Nathan began asking The French Syndicate questions, which led to him disappearing as well. Maya attempted to inquire Francois "Franco" Moreau, The Head of The French Syndicate, about Nathan's whereabouts, but did not receive an answer and never responded to her, it was then that Maya realized Franco sold Nathan out.
It wasn't until Maya encountered William Peck, an Ex-Omega Group scientist at Subic Bay that she finally had a lead on where her brother Nathan could be at Terminus Island, a CIA black site used by Project Janus for illegal experiments. After saving Peck from the locals, the two of them arranged a deal to work together and go to Terminus Island, where they would free former members of the CIA task force Requiem, while Maya would also get a chance to find Nathan.
In February 1991, Peck and Maya chartered a boat from Japan to go to Terminus Island, where they freed The Requiem Team after killing The Janus Security Guard at the CCTV Room, and Peck proposed that they all go after The Director of Project Janus, Edward "Eddie" Richtofen, to get their revenge. Before they could make an escape, suddenly, a dimensional breach occurred, unleashing Zombies on The Terminus Island, forcing Maya to team up with Grigori Weaver, Elizabeth Grey and Mackenzie Carver to fend off against the undead while Peck and Oskar Strauss go to the Guard Station and Stoney "Raptor One" Maddox finds a Helicopter at the landing pad for exfil. after restoring the power to the island, The Team managed to find Nathan, who had been mutated into a Amalgam Form, and had become nothing more than a raging beast. After weakening Nathan enough, Carver attempted to deal the final blow, but Maya stopped him, volunteering to do it instead, as Nathan was "her responsibility". a few seconds, Maya shoots Nathan in the head with a pistol in sadness and felt heartbroken while looking away. After tearfully killing Nathan, Maya swore vengeance on Dr. Revati Modi, The Project Janus Scientist who conducted the experiments on Nathan, as well as Franco. Just then, Modi contacted the group by taunting and antagonizing their current state.
Maya angrily replied that Modi would pay for what she did to Nathan. Afterwards, the team reestablished the island's connections by reactivating the Synaptic Algorithm Module also known as S.A.M., an artificial intelligence system designed by Richtofen. With S.A.M.'s help, the team deactivated the bombs and detonators and later The Team managed to pull Dr. Modi's Submarine back to Terminus Island, allowing them to confront her. However, upon arrival, Dr. Modi's Submarine was consumed and killed by Owen Guthrie also known as Patient 13, another one of her experiments that roams the surrounding water, and the team was forced to kill it. Following the battle, S.A.M. revealed to the team that Richtofen was obsessed with researching The Sentinel Artifact, Prima Materia and that he had The French Syndicate go look for it in Avalon, and they interrogated a man named Gabriel Krafft and the team's associate Sergei Ravenov was forced employed by The French Syndicate and it's boss Franco. Upon hearing that Franco was involved, Maya agreed to join the team for their next destination. Maya, Weaver, Grey, Carver, Strauss and Peck exfil with Raptor One in the helicopter by leaving Terminus Island to head to Avalon.
Maya with Weaver, Grey, Carver, Peck, Strauss and Raptor One traveled to Avalon with her mind set on only one goal by Killing Franco. They arrived in a small village where Ravenov was stationed, and met with him. Their conversation was quickly interrupted by another outbreak, putting Maya and the others in action once more. They entered the castle near the village, and successfully founded Gabriel Krafft, a demonologist who was captured and tortured by The French Syndicate for information regarding The Sentinel Artifact's whereabouts, and was guided by him to locate the Obscurus Altilium, The Amulet that could help them find The Artifact. While The Requiem Team were focused on complying and obeying Krafft's instructions, Maya noticed the radio broadcast, which she then discovered to be from Franco. imitating as one of his members and gained access to the secret area within the castle and confronted Franco. As she cornered The Frightened Gangster, Maya replied that she was doing this not for Nathan, but for herself, She then shot Franco in the head with her pistol and left his body behind. After killing Franco, Maya rejoined The Requiem Team in helping them with finding The Amulet.
After completing several puzzles and rituals, they uncovered a key left behind The Templar Knight named Sir Guy de Saint-Michel, which they used to summon The Guardian of The Amulet and defeat it. Just then, Krafft's dungeon cell was breached by zombies, and he was unable to defend himself. Maya with The Requiem Team, Peck and Ravenov returned too late to save him. As Krafft was mortally wounded and bleeding out from his wound, he told the team to go to an excavation site nearby to proceed with their quest. in his dying breath, Krafft also revealed to them that Richtofen was his son and begged and warned the team not to kill him. Krafft then dies, The Requiem Team, Peck, Ravenov and Maya sadly mourns him and they discuss about Krafft raising Richtofen and later Richtofen's wife and son died in a fire and he became a monster and the dig site that Krafft mentioned and it isn't far. The Requiem Team, Peck, Maya and Ravenov agreed and then leaves the dungeon and the castle after looking at Krafft's body one last time while traveling to the dig site.
A few hours later, Maya traveled with Weaver, Grey, Carver, Peck, Ravenov, Strauss and Raptor One to the nearby excavation dig site, and found The Odin Sentinel Artifact in a Dark Aether Nexus that the crew could travel to after some guidance from the echoes of Sir Archibald Fotherington-Smythe, an archeologist who had been at the same dig site many decades before, through the use of The Obscurus Altilium.
