~ Chairon facing Imurah in the Warp |
Meduras Chairon is one of the deuteragonists of the 2024 grimdark third-person shooter game Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. He is a Primaris Marine of the Ultramarines Chapter, one of the first Primaris Marines created in the wake of the Horus Heresy, who took up a self-imposed crusade of vengeance against Chaos in the 41st millennium. He fought alongside Lieutenant Demetrian Titus and Sergeant Valorem Gadriel against an invasion of both Tyranids and the Thousand Sons into the Recidious Sector of the Imperium of Man.
Chairon was voiced by Miles Yekinni.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Chairon was born at the start of the 31st millennium on Calth, a civilized agri-world in the realm of Ultramar, seat of the Ultramarines Legion. He grew up under the early Imperium of Man, which the Emperor of Mankind had built to re-unify humanity and restore its lost golden age. However, the unity was shattered by the Horus Heresy, where half of the Emperor's Legions of Astartes turned to the Ruinous Powers of Chaos, leading the traitorous Word Bearers Legion to invade Calth as part of their attempt to kill Roboute Guilliman, Primarch of the Ultramarines.
Chairon, a young boy at the time, survived the horrific destruction on Calth, but lost his entire family in the attack, and was taken in as a refugee by another world of Ultramar. Developing a burning hatred against Chaos and all its heretics, Chairon dedicated himself to emulating the heroism of the Ultramarines he had witnessed, he grew up teaching himself how to fight, and quickly joined the Ultramarines aspirant trials as soon as he could. He passed his tests and was taken in as a neophyte, only to be mysteriously taken in by the agents of Archmagos Belisarius Cawl, who had been tasked by Guilliman to create an upgrade to Astartes.
The exact reasons and events of Chairon's selection for the secret project are unknown, but Chairon was taken to Mars, where he and the other young men selected were put into stasis by Cawl, where Chairon remained for 10,000 years as the Archmagos perfected the process of creating the upgrade- Primaris Marines.
Primaris Marine[]
10,000 years later, at the end of the 41st millennium, the forces of Chaos had created the Great Rift, a Warp Storm that cleaved the galaxy in two, starting the Era Indomitus. Roboute Guilliman, fatally wounded by his treacherous brother Fulgrim after the Horus Heresy, had been resurrected on Macragge, and took up the mantle of Imperial Regent on Terra, where he commanded Cawl to awaken the now-completed Primaris Marines. As such, Chairon rose as a transhuman Astartes, upgraded to protect humanity in its darkest time.
While he had been initially inducted into the Ultramarines and given the Ultramarines gene-seed, Chairon was first placed in the Unnumbered Sons, a half-legion force that combined Primaris Marines of multiple gene-seed stock, allowing Chairon to serve alongside Space Marines of many heritages and soak up a myriad of tactics. Eventually, he was finally assigned to the Ultramarines 9th Company. During his service in the 9th Company, Chairon was assigned to guard an Imperial stronghold in the face of an Ork assault, where Chairon was overpowered by an Ork Warboss and nearly killed by the Ork's weaponized drill, before fellow Ultramarine Ditonus Varellus cut off the Warboss' arm and beat the greenskin to death with it. For this, Chairon forged a deep friendship with Varellus for saving his life.
Later, Chairon was moved to the Ultramarines 2nd Company by recommendation of 2nd Company Captain Sevastus Acheran. Chairon excelled in the 2nd Company, exacting his revenge on the forces of Chaos that now poured into realspace from the Great Rift, and also turned his firepower on the xenos threats that still lurked around the galaxy, such as during the Fourth Tyrannic War. By the Recidious Campaign, Chairon had served for less than 50 years, and had lost his right arm at some point, replacing it with a cybernetic. He was also awarded an Iron Halo Space Marine Honor Badge for his service. Additionally, he was in the same squad as 2nd Company Sergeant Valorem Gadriel, who served closely under Acheran.
