Meeko is the tritagonist of Disney's Pocahontas and a major character of its sequel Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World. He is a mischievous raccoon that is one of Pocahontas' pets (alongside Flit).

He was voiced by John Kassir.

Appearance[]

Meeko is a North American raccoon. He has gray fur with white linings on his front, and has black arms.

Personality[]

Meeko is a raccoon as well as one of Pocahontas' animal friends. He is sly, very greedy and loves to steal food from anyone. He is usually seen with either Flit or Percy. Flit finds him annoying, as does Percy.

Biography[]

Pocahontas[]

Meeko is first seen eating raspberries until Flit stops him as Pocahontas tells him to come along due to her father having returned home. Meeko follows Pocahontas and tries to do a dive like she did when jumping off a cliff, but upon seeing how high he is descending to the water, Meeko gets scared. He tries to use Flit as a shield, only for the two of them to splash into the water together.

Recovering from the splash, Meeko tries to climb into a canoe, only to lose his balance, but he is able to get on when Pocahontas and her best friend, Nakoma turn it over. Arriving at the Indian village, Meeko and Flit watch Pocahontas talk with her father who reveals to her that one of the warriors, Kocoum has asked for her hand in marriage, which Meeko and Pocahontas are against due to knowing Kocoum is too serious. He and Flit then travel with Pocahontas on a river where they go to meet Grandmother Willow.

Meeko is first seen perched along Pocahontas' shoulders when Cinderella asks Vanellope von Schweetz if animals talk to her. Later in the scene, Meeko is seen sitting with Pocahontas for the remainder of Vanellope's visit. When Vanellope tries to sing, Meeko screeches in rebuke like a domesticated cat.

Meeko later appears during the climax, where the princesses band together to rescue Wreck-It Ralph. He can be seen sitting beside Pocahontas as she summons a gust of wind to safely carry off the bad-guy.

Trivia[]

Meeko was originally going to be an anthropomorphic turkey named Redfeather and was originally going to be voiced by the late John Candy, but the character was scrapped, due to Candy's death in 1994 and was replaced with a mute raccoon.
