Mei Irizaki (西崎 芽依, Irizaki Mei?), is one of the four tritagonists (alongside Shima Tateishi, Kouko Nosa and Rin Shiretoko) of the 2015 manga series High School Fleet and its 2016 anime adaptation, as well as the 2020 movie High School Fleet Movie.
Serving as the Harekaze's artillery officer, Mei finds thrill in her battles, when torpedoes and depth charges are within the picture of the battle. Mei is often known to be with her best friend Shima Tateishi.
Along with one of the Harekaze crew members to be falsely accused of mutiny by Kaoru Furushou, who was under control by RATt Virus, Mei and the rest would go into hiding across the Pacific.
Mei is voiced by Atsumi Tanezaki, who voiced other characters including Chise Hatori from The Ancient Magus' Bride, Anya Forger in SPYxFAMILY, and Sajuna Inui from My Dress-Up Darling.
Appearance[]
Mei has brown hair wrapped up in a broad ponytail with a red ribbon and a green hair clip on her left side, as well as brown eyes.
Even at night when sleeping, she can be seen wearing her school uniform but with an orange cat-themed sweatshirt over it; she has only been spotted wearing her uniform alone a few times.
Personality[]
Mei finds the thrill of battle to her liking. Nothing can be music to her ears more than being able to fire a torpedo, much more an entire salvo. This also applies to depth charges. As expected, however, she doesn't like the fact of being fired at, she also shows some signs of fear of being fired or an unexpected explosion of shells.
Her choice of quotes, notably from "The Three Major Daimyo". shows her occasional impatience. She likes the first line the most: "If the cuckoo doesn't sing, kill it."
The polar opposite to Tama's stoic and quiet personality, Mei is often known to be regularly optimistic towards her crew members, as she is the most optimistic of the ship's officers.
She made close friends with Chief Artillery Officer Shima Tateishi during the expedition. Mei even accompanied Tama when she was imprisoned when the highly infectious pathogen known as the RATt Virus caused her to go amok and attack the repair ships. However, she can grow impatient and refuse to wait for a response at times, acting unreasonably such as shouting at Rin Shiretoko for no apparent reason.
