Biography[]
Despicable Me 3[]
Mel is the introduced leader of the Minions in the film's storyline and the protagonist of the minions' subplot. Felonious Gru has retired from being a supervillain for years, much to Mel and the Minions' dismay. Mel and the Minions, however, want Gru to become a villain again as he has lost his job being an agent for the Anti-Villain League, but Gru declines nonetheless. Thus, a rebellion against Gru, led by Mel, is formed, as they decide to leave Gru for another possible villain; excluding Dave and Jerry, who just accessed the lab after the performance for Gru's family moments after Mel and the other Minions' departure.
After Mel and the Minions quit on Gru, the group walks out through the rain before bumping into Dru's butler, Fritz, in the process, who asks for the whereabouts of Mr. Gru's address. Mel and the minions, still angry at Gru for dismissing villainy, instead dismiss Fritz's offering in hostility and refuse to tell him as to where Gru lives. The next morning, the Minions get fatigued of walking for the whole night and were starving excluding Mel. The latter gets the idea to chase after a pizza delivery guy to steal his food. However, they trespass into a TV studio lot, which causes the police to chase after them. They decide to hide, but end up on the set for a singing competition in the process. Then, they start singing a Minionese rendition of the famous patter song, "I Am The Very Model of a Modern Major General" from the Gilbert and Sullivan opera, the Pirates of Penzance, which they dub "Papa Mama Loca Pipa." The song is a hit with the judges and audience, but Mel and the Minions get arrested soon after.
Mel and the Minions learn to rule out the prison, but eventually, Mel realizes how much he misses and needs Gru in his life, so Mel and the Minions create a plane so they can escape from the prison. They escape successfully when it was dark, but a Minion is left behind as he requires to wave light signals for the aircraft. Mel, who pilots the plane, witnesses Gru, Lucy and Dru, much to his surprise, so Mel and the Minions follow them to the Hollywood, which is endangered by Balthazar Bratt, and attempt to destroy Bratt's bubble-gum with their weapons. Upon's Bratt defeat, Mel and the Minions succeed in destroying the bubblegum before it could rise Hollywood into space, along with everyone else. After this, Mel and Gru finally reconcile, thus returning with Gru's family, along with Dru Gru.
After Lucy settles the girls and Gru calls the Minions and Dru to sleep (including Mel), Mel, along with other Minions, removes their dungarees and Dru drives Gru's Airship, which Gru's emblem is replaced by a "D," to "continue the family tradition."
Despicable Me 4[]
After becoming an agent of the Anti-Villain League, Mel eventually becomes a member of the Mega Minions, and as a result of the experiment involving the Super-Serum, his eye is now equipped with a laser that can cut through the earth. After the microwave is destroyed, Mel assists Jiminy by heating his coffee with his laser, which gets to hot until it shatters, but it gets worse because he also destroys a glass window, an igloo and a satellite, which terrifies Mel as it almost makes contact with Jiminy as well until being prevented by Jerry. Later on, Mel assists in defeating Maxime Le Mal.
Appearance[]
Like the rest of the Minions, Mel is an single-eyed short minion with combed, half-bald and thick hair.
Personality[]
Mel is characterized as the faithful and dedicated leader of the Minions. Thus, Mel is mature, intelligent, wise and paragonic in comparison to the other Minions. He shares the same personality as the other Minions, with the exceptions being characterized with high intelligence and desire of justice to dwell into villainy once again. However, by the other side, he is sentimental when he reaches his relationship with Gru, as Mel is perceived as one of the closest Minions to Gru.
Mel is argued to be the most impertinent and independent Minion across the Despicable Me franchise. He speaks the same language as the rest of the Minions, but what sets Mel apart is his insistence that the troupe can go criminal without supervision.
