Councilor Mel Medarda is one of the three tritagonists (alongside Viktor and Ekko) of Netflix's 2021 animated series Arcane, which is based on the 2009 popular online video game League of Legends.

She is the estranged daughter and arch-nemesis of Ambessa Medarda, the sister of the late Kino Medarda, and the love interest of Jayce Tails.

She became a member of the Piltover council after her mother disowned her from their clan years before the events of the show started. She initially intended to use Jayce as a means to an end in order to further her position of power in Piltover, but comes to develop genuine feelings for him and ends up supporting him in his endeavors.

She is voiced by Toks Olagundoye.

Appearance

Mel is depicted as a beautiful young woman with brown skin and green eyes. She has curly dark brown hair stylized with gold jewlery. She's normally seen wearing an elegant white dress which is also adorned with gold.

Personality

Mel is highly intelligent and cunning, using her charisma and beauty as a way to manipulate certain members of the Piltover council into siding with her on multiple occasions. Despite her manipulative habits and desire for power, she does come to sincerly love and support Jayce despite only seeing him as a way to advance her career at first. She's also someone who desires peace as she strongly opposes her mother's violent methods which is what has caused them to clash many times and lead Mel to be exiled in the first place. She supports Jayce when he tries to strike a deal with Silco that would cause both nations to make peace, although it failed. When the council decides to retaliate against Zaun after Jinx's bombing attack, she reluctantly agrees, but refuses to involve Hextech weapons.

Trivia

• Mel is one of the only main protagonists to not originally be a playable character in League of Legends. Despite this however, she would later go on to become playable after the show's conclusion.
