Melanie is the tritagonist of the 2020 Roblox game Regretevator.
She is a robotic rabbit who can enter the elevator. After being killed by a dream parasite named Folly, Melanie was repaired by her best friend, Mozelle. Nowadays, Melanie is working with DrRETRO in order to take down Folly, her coworker, and the deity they work for.
Appearance[]
Melanie is a robotic creature modeled after an anthropomorphic rabbit with white fur, donning a light blue television with pink scan lines for a head. Melanie wears a black shirt, purple hooded jacket, sky blue skirt and sneakers, and pink and white striped socks. Melanie also keeps half of a heart-shaped necklace on her, carried by a silver chain around her neck.
Notably, parts of Melanie are actually organic, or at the very least capable of carrying DNA, if her dialogue with Prototype is to be believed. Aside from her head, which is clearly robotic, what parts of her body are made of flesh and which ones are metal is unclear.
Personality[]
Melanie is a kind-hearted and caring person, often wishing to help people in whatever way she can. She is nothing short of friendly towards others, even towards those who don't necessarily deserve it. Melanie is an animal lover, loves performing, and generally wants what's best for her friends.
Melanie's death at the hands of Folly has left them in a bit of a wrecked mental state, causing them to stutter a lot due to paranoia and stress. Melanie seemingly suffers from migraines and a foggy mind when reminded of Folly, and if the two happen to cross paths, Melanie will be utterly terrified the entire way through.
Biography[]
Background[]
Prior to the events of the game, Melanie was best friends with Mozelle. She would usually hang out over at Mozelle's palace down in Hell, often as a regular to her many, many tea parties. Melanie was also a performer, with her main stage seemingly being the Mysterious Ball Room floor.
According to one of the floppies in the game, Melanie was pen pals with the Dreamer, a kindly creation made under the service of the Great One. The two of them would promise to meet up one day, once the Dreamer was finally free to travel to distant lands. After the events of The Cleave, a short comic detailing the corruption of the Dreamer, it's implied that she either tried or successfully sent one final letter to Melanie, with it being coated in dark red tear stains, and Melanie seemingly couldn't bring herself to open it.
At some point, Melanie was contacted by DrRETRO and Pest regarding her knowledge of the Dreamer, who had gone berserk and turned into the villainous w:c:villains:Folly, with Melanie telling the duo to meet her at her stage. However, during Melanie's "reveal" trailer, the girl was suddenly ambushed by a swarm of red eyes, slowly closing in on her as they stared at her with malice.
When she came to, the lights were dimmed. Her regained consciousness only lasted for a short moment, as she was dragged off into the darkness, killed off swiftly and brutally. Nothing but her head, thrown onto the floor, seemed to remain as the perpetrator and former friend, Folly, made her presence known before disappearing once more. By the time DrRETRO and Pest made it to the stage, the pair could find nothing but a stain on the stage's carpet.
At some point, Mozelle would catch wind of Melanie's death. Appearing by her lifeless head, Mozelle would personally drag her remains back to her palace. For an unspecified amount of time, Mozelle would work on Melanie's body, meticulously repairing her as thoroughly as possible. Her body could be found in Mozelle's castle in a side room, as Mozelle slowly made progress in bringing her back to life.
After Melanie's repair, she would successfully meet up with DrRETRO and Pest, joining them on their quest to take down MR, who Folly had been working with in order to achieve "freedom".
Regretevator[]
Melanie can be found on two floors: "Mozelle's Humble Castle" and "PET CAPTURE DELUXE".
In Mozelle's Humble Castle, Melanie is seated at the end of Mozelle's dining table, getting up and leaving if there is a spot available on the elevator. If not, or if MR or Folly are in the elevator, she will remain seated in Mozelle's castle, seemingly joining in the eating competition.
In PET CAPTURE DELUXE, Melanie can be found wandering across the map, picking up pets that are found across the map. A dialogue between them and Split states that Melanie is collecting the pets in order to "protect them" from something, likely MR. After the floor is finished, they will enter the elevator if there is a spot available and if neither MR or Folly are in the elevator.
When in the elevator, Melanie can occasionally force all players and NPCs to jump in the air, signified by a timer near the bottom of the screen. Depending on what floor is active, this can be either detrimental or beneficial. Additionally, Melanie can heal a small bit of health to players if the Petal Cone is used on her.
Melanie will leave on the PET CAPTURE DELUXE, Intense Obby, Ballpit, and Cardboard Mansion floors.

Trivia[]
- Melanie was created and designed by nilawafer.
- Melanie was originally created as just a hoax so players can get attached to her before she got killed by Folly. At some point of development, that plan changed, and Melanie was eventually added in as a real NPC.
- Allegedly, if players fail to capture any pets on the Pet Capture DELUXE floor, MR has a chance of spawning into the elevator. Since Melanie automatically collects pets on their own, this retroactively makes it near-impossible for MR to spawn on that floor.
- Melanie's corpse, or at least a representation of her body, was originally able to be seen in Eternal Limbo, Folly's boss floor. This was removed on the 28/9/24 update, after it was teased that Mozelle retrieved Melanie's corpse.
- If Folly is in the elevator with Melanie, the latter will be terrified. This will persist until either one of them leaves.
- If players use the Petal Cone and shower Melanie with petals, she will give them a healing buff to regenerate health. According to nilawafer, her whimsey alone is enough to soothe a soul.
- Melanie cannot heal a player if Folly is in the elevator, likely due to Melanie being intensely terrified of her murderer.
- Melanie will not accept being gifted a Magic Mirror, Wet Cement, Jerm Pop, Gas Mask, or Kitty.
- According to dialogue between her and Split, Melanie made her new shoes herself.
- Scag has a copy of Melanie's consciousness on "Giggle Drive", and has expressed interest in cloning her.
- Melanie has been stated to be 6'4", 5'9" if the ears aren't counted.
- Melanie canonically uses she/they pronouns, but nilawafer has approved of people using other pronouns for her as well.
- Melanie's sexuality is unlabeled.
- Melanie was named after melatonin, a hormone that aids the body in sleeping. Ironically, she was killed by someone who invades people's nightmares.
- Melanie's birthday is on May 31st. She does not have an actual age, however, and is considered ageless.
- As revealed in a hidden room of Mozelle's Humble Castle, Melanie runs on Hannah Montana Linux.
- If Melanie's television head was shut off, she'd enter a coma-like state until it was turned back on.
- Melanie cannot backflip. She can double jump, however.
- Melanie is a fan of pastel colors, hence her color scheme.
