~ Merc during a challenge. |
Merc and Green are supporting protagonists in the video game Ratchet: Deadlocked. They are a duo of combat bots who were assigned to be Ratchet's teammates during his time as a DreadZone gladiator.
Merc was voiced by Phil Morris, while Green was voiced by Travis Davis.
Biography[]
Past[]
Green used to serve in the army and fought in the Blathercon War. He lost both his legs and many of his friends in an ambush, and was sent to be repaired on a factory on Vegas 3, where he fell in love with a repair bot. Their relationship quickly turned intimate, but was discovered by Green's superiors, and his girlfriend was turned into a park bench as punishment. Merc's backstory is unknown, but he is implied to have a military past as well.
At some point, the two robots became DreadZone gladiators. They were assigned to an unknown contestant who died shortly before Ratchet's capture, after which Merc and Green were reassigned to the lombax's team.
Deadlocked[]
Merc and Green fought alongside Ratchet in almost every DreadZone challenge, always helping him out, though one time he had to save the two robots from the Maraxus Prison. The combat bots joined the lombax in his final fight against the head of DreadZone himself, Gleeman Vox, and defeated him, letting other captured heroes escape the explosive-rigged space station. As Vox triggered the station's self-destruction mechanism, Ratchet and his teammates didn't expect to make it out alive, but were saved by Clank in the last moment and escaped.
Free at last, Merc and Green took jobs as cooks at Galaxy Burger. However, they drew a lot of unwanted attention to themselves and retired. They later applied for the position of the Ratchet fan club den leaders, but whether they became ones and what happened to them next remains unknown.
Trivia[]
- Merc and Green look completely identical to each other and can only be told apart by their voices.
- In early stages of development, Merc and Green were supposed to have legs, but since their AI couldn't function properly this way and kept blocking the player's path, the developers decided to have them fly instead.
- It's unknown if Merc also lost his legs like Green did, but given they are of the same model, it's very likely to be the case.
