Merlon is a supporting character in the Paper Mario series. He serves as a minor character in the first two games, and is a major character in Super Paper Mario.
History[]
Paper Mario[]
Merlon makes his first appearance at his house in Toad Town's northern plaza with a blue rotating roof. His mission is to give Mario the information he needs for his next mission in the game, how and where to get there. At one point in the game, Merlon can give the quick-swap badge to Mario if he asks him for boots to hit the attic of the house.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door[]
Merlon now lives near Professor Frankly on the east side of Rogueport. If Mario gives him three of the Shine Sprites, he upgrades one member of his team, giving them more HP and a new ability.
Super Paper Mario[]
Merlon now resides in Flipside and possesses the Light Prognosticus, which was created to counter the Dark Prognosticus. He's also now assisted by the pixl Tippi, who he has a father/daughter relationship with. When Mario first arrives in Flopside with Tippi, he explains to him that Count Bleck has summoned the Chaos Heart and used it open the Void, a slowly expanding inter-dimensional rift which is ominously hovering over Flipside at the beginning of the game, in order to supposedly destroy the flawed universe and create a perfect one in its place. He then tasks him with collecting all eight Pure Hearts, which are needed to counter the Chaos Heart and close the Void, and gives him the first one that he already has in his possesion if Mario accepts the quest before sending him on his way to other worlds to find the others.

Trivia[]
- Promotional artwork of Merlon for the remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door seems to contain an error in which his left foot is facing forward and to the side at the same time.
- It is revealed in The Thousand-Year Door that people in Merlon's tribe are given a specific name depending on their occupation. This suggests that the Merlons seen in the first three Paper Mario games might actually be three different members of the tribe.
