Hero Overview

This place is beautiful, but what right have I to judge? What do I know of this world and its beauty? I am not like other creatures. I am not of this world.
~ Mewtwo
Mewtwo was created by recombing Mew's genes. It's said to have the most savage heart among Pokémon.
~ Mewtwo's Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Pokédex Entry.

Mewtwo is the secondary antagonist of Pokémon who was once the titular main antagonist of Pokémon the First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back and its remake, Pokémon - Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution. It is a psychic genetic Pokémon cloned from Mew, the Legendary Pokémon ancestor of all Pokémon. Mewtwo used to be a villain until it redeemed itself and made a change of heart.

It was originally voiced by Jay Goede in the first film and Dan Green (who's also well known for voicing Yugi Muto/Yami Yugi and Entei) in Mewtwo Returns.

Another Mewtwo from Pokemon the Movie: Genesect and the Legend Awakened was voiced by Miriam Pultro.

It was also voiced by Masachika Ichimura in Super Smash Bros. Melee and the late Keiji Fujiwara in Super Smash Bros. 4 and Ultimate.

Video Games[]

Pokémon[]

In the main Pokémon games, Mewtwo is only encountered in Cerulean Cave, with no real storyline significance. It is seen at level 70 in Red, Blue, Yellow, FireRed, LeafGreen, HeartGold, SoulSilver and XY (Unknown Dungeon).

Super Smash Bros. series[]

Nintendo has a popular fighting game franchise, featuring their characters. Mewtwo was playable in the second installment (though sources say it was meant to be in the first title before being scrapped), Super Smash Bros. Melee. It was planned to be playable for Brawl, but was cut due to apparent time constraints.

Mewtwo became the most requested character for the Smash Bros. series after Brawl and was included in unofficial Project M modification. It was eventually added to Super Smash Bros. 4, but was not included in the roster when the latter was released some months before the former. However, it was announced as a free bonus DLC character for everyone who bought both the Wii U and the 3DS version of the game and registered them on Club Nintendo. It was later made purchasable through the AOC shop. It is now updated with Mega Y form for its Final Smash.

In Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Mewtwo was featured in the World of Light storyline and was both defeated by Galeem's beams of light at the beginning along with everyone else aside from Kirby, and later was held captive by Dharkon. However, when a clone of it is found and defeated, it becomes playable from that point on.

Kanto arc[]

About twenty years before the present, Team Rocket determined that a Mew changed its dwelling to Guyana. Many years later, beneath the orders of the new boss, Giovanni, an excursion of team Rocket scientists traveled to the region to search for Fossils. They succeeded in locating an eyelash belonging to Mew. Giovanni asked Dr. Fuji to clone Mew for him and create the maximum powerful Pokémon in life. Fuji agreed due to the fact he wanted to use group Rocket's research to attempt to clone his deceased daughter, Amber. One month after the invention of the eyelash, Mewtwo turned into correctly created and stored at New Island. At this point, it became nevertheless now not fully grown and lived in a huge test tube beside others containing Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander, and Amber. Fuji and Giovanni gets an idea of Mewtwo turned into unconscious inside its tube, however, it was capable of talk telepathically with Amber and the other clones.

But due to the fact the life pressure of a human is not as sturdy as a Pokémon's, the Amber clone died. The alternative three clones had died rapidly earlier than Amber did, suggesting that Mewtwo's lifestyles pressure is even more potent than a normal Pokémon's. over the years, Mewtwo matured and grew careworn over its beginning and location in the global. After resolving to figure out in which it belongs, Mewtwo broke out of its test tube. The team Rocket scientists had been glad that they had succeeded in creating the most effective Pokémon in the global, however, that joy grew to become to horror once Mewtwo found out that it become simply an experiment and unleashed its fury upon them. no matter the efforts of the safety systems that tried to govern it, Mewtwo destroyed the laboratory on New Island and all the scientists in it.

In its robot suit, underneath observance by way of Giovanni at once thereafter, Giovanni observed Mewtwo and satisfied it to assist with crew Rocket's aim of controlling the sector. Mewtwo's energy became centered in addition to restricted via a robotic suit of armor as it accomplished obligations along with struggling with for Giovanni in the Viridian health club and helping team Rocket capture Pokémon. Mewtwo eventually became tired of being utilized by Giovanni. It developed a sturdy hatred for people and concept that they were vulnerable and egocentric beings simplest inquisitive about electricity and wealth; it additionally despised Pokémon who served people. Mewtwo escaped from Giovanni (destroying group Rocket headquarters within the procedure), relocated to its birthplace on New Island and built a citadel there. Mewtwo then issued a project to numerous sturdy Pokémon trainers, along with Ash Ketchum. It used its powers to create a typhoon that functioned as a test to see who could make it to the island. A handful of talented trainers managed to brave the typhoon and arrive, including Ash and his pals. Upon revealing itself, Mewtwo challenged the trainers with its clone Pokémon—Venusaur, Blastoise, and Charizard—to show its superiority to human trainers and the superiority of cloned Pokémon to skilled ones. To do this, Mewtwo used a variant of the Poké Balls used by trainers. As soon as they were stuck inside the Balls, the Pokémon that had been added to the island had been cloned in an upstairs laboratory. However, before Mewtwo could defeat the trainers and fly out into the arena, Mew engaged it in battle. Mew and Mewtwo fought for a bit, but ceased when Ash stepped into the crossfire of their attacks and turned to stone. After Ash was revived by the tears of the nearby Pokémon, clone and authentic alike, Mewtwo has a change of heart. Mewtwo reasoned that it would be great if no person remembered the activities that had transpired, so it erased the recollections of all of the humans and Pokémon and transported them back to the mainland. Mewtwo and Mew left New Island with the cloned Pokémon to try to find a proper location for themselves.

Johto arc[]

Mewtwo and the clones migrated to Johto and ultimately settled on Mount Quena. To prevent any encounters with human beings, Mewtwo often used intense storms to make the mountain inaccessible. In the future, a bus full of people was almost knocked off the road, but Mewtwo determined to use its telekinesis to put the bus back on the street. It explained to its fellow clones that a bus crash might entice even more human beings, but the clone Meowth believed that Mewtwo's act may also have additionally been because of a developing gentle spot for humanity.

Giovanni located Mewtwo's hiding region by using one of Team Rocket's satellites and began a plan to seize it again. However, this plan was foiled when Mewtwo once more met with Ash, who remembered their previous encounter. Giovanni tried to capture Mewtwo, but its friends helped it get away and defeat Giovanni. on the give up of the ordeal, Mewtwo erased Giovanni and its soldiers' recollections and decided to move throughout the world, trying to find the means of its existence. Within the epilogue to Mewtwo Returns and in a few television collection starting sequences and movie previews, Mewtwo has been seen carrying a undeniable brown cape and travelling along rooftops at night.

A different Mewtwo appears in M16, fighting against the Genesect Army alongside Ash and his friends.

She has a similar background to the Mewtwo who was in Mewtwo Strikes Back, but it is a distinct, separate individual. She suffered a similar existential crisis, although didn't succumb to rage against humanity like the original temporarily did.

Journeys[]

The original Mewtwo met Ash and Goh, who both challenged him to a battle against Pikachu, Lucario, and Cinderace, which Mewtwo won. Mewtwo then told the boys that he rescues Pokémon from humans that mistreat them. After that he teleported Ash and Goh back home.

  • Telekinesis: Mewtwo's main power is telekinesis; he is able in games to use Psychic, a powerful wave of telekinetic energy. In the anime, his telekinesis is better shown; he is able, although inexperienced, at breaking presumed solid capsules. Later in his life, having acquired a better control of his power, he demonstrated the power to levitate a herd of Tauros easily, beat a whole team of Pokémon without any difficulties and launch a human (in this case, Ash) with such force that he would have been killed without Mew's intervention.
    • Flight: Like many telekinetics, Mewtwo is able to levitate and fly at high speed using telekinesis on his own body.
    • Very advanced meteokinesis: Mewtwo's telekinesis also allows him to manipulate water and weather in large quantities, as he demonstrates by generating a gigantic storm.
    • Geokinesis: Mewtwo's telekinesis also allows him to manipulate earth. He was able to erect two columns of earth to protect himself from attacks.
  • Telepathy: Mewtwo has powerful telepathic abilities, to the extent he's demonstrated the ability to communicate with humans through their thoughts.
    • Mental control: Mewtwo can control the mind of any human or Pokémon. He was able to completely hypnotize a Nurse Joy and later erase the memories of Ash, his friends and all of Team Rocket, including Giovanni and Domino.
  • Energy manipulation: Mewtwo is capable of generating energy in different forms to attack, like balls or rays capable of transforming a human into stone.
  • Teleporting: By learning the Teleport technique, Mewtwo can quickly move form one spot to another.
    • Apporting: Mewtwo can teleport other things to another place, even a place as big as a lake. He was able to conjure Pokéball from nowhere to capture the Pokémons, and teleport a lake using all its power.
  • Special abilities control: Mewtwo was able to disable all special Pokémon abilities to spice up the match between the original Pokémon and the clones.

Regeneration: Mewtwo is able to heal from injuries very quickly. After being shot by a computer, it only took a few seconds to recover.

Abilities[]

Genius-level intelligence: Mewtwo is extremely intelligent, much more so than most other Pokémon, and even more than most humans.

  • Strategy: Mewtwo was able to put a complex plan in place to attract the trainers to his island, and then clone their Pokémon.
  • Mechanic: Mewtwo is an extremely competent mechanic, being able to build a cloning machine. In the second film, he was able to set up a high-tech base with a screen to see the outside world.

Indomitable will: Mewtwo has incredible willpower. He never stopped fighting Giovanni to protect the clones and the island. Even when tortured, he resisted long periods of pain to save his protégés.
