It was eventually added to Super Smash Bros. 4 but was not included in the roster when the latter was released some months before the former. However, it was announced as a free bonus DLC character for everyone who bought both the Wii U and the 3DS version of the game and registered them on Club Nintendo. It was later made purchasable through the AOC shop. It is now updated with Mega Y form for its Final Smash.

As Mewtwo being based on both movie anime iteration counterparts however, his Japanese voice actor is different in post-Melee, and never been receiving a proper English voice actor such as Dan Greene.
