Midori is a recurring playable character from the Guitar Hero series of rhythm video games, first introduced in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. She represents the genres of pop, J-pop, pop rock and pop punk. Midori is the fourth female character of the series after Guitar Hero II newcomer Casey Lynch, as well as the first and only character native to Japan.

She returned as a playable character in Guitar Hero World Tour but was absent from subsequent mainline titles Guitar Hero 5 and Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. She has also been a playable character in various expansion console-based spinoffs, including Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades, Guitar Hero: Metallica, Guitar Hero: Smash Hits, Band Hero and Guitar Hero: Van Halen.

History[]

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock & Guitar Hero: Aerosmith[]

Midori debuted as a new character in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and later reappeared in its band-centric counterpart, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. Out of the eight starting characters, she is the only one new to the cast. She is a randomly selected character in both games' single player quickplay modes (non-Aerosmith songs in Guitar Hero: Aerosmith only).

Guitar Hero: On Tour Decades[]

Although she was absent from the first Guitar Hero: On Tour game due to its very limited character selection, Midori appears as a playable character in its sequel, Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades.

Guitar Hero World Tour-Guitar Hero: Van Halen[]

In Guitar Hero World Tour, Midori returns as a playable character by default. She also reappears as a playable character in its spinoffs, Guitar Hero: Smash Hits, Guitar Hero: Metallica and Guitar Hero: Van Halen. She is a selectable character in all four games' Career modes. She can appear playing any song on guitar, bass, drums, or vocals.

In the Career modes of Guitar Hero World Tour and Guitar Hero: Smash Hits, Midori can appear on any song in any tier, while in the Career modes Guitar Hero: Metallica and Guitar Hero: Van Halen, she only appears in the guest act tiers.

Band Hero[]

After being absent in Guitar Hero 5, Midori returned in its spinoff, Band Hero, as a starting character. As with previous titles since Guitar Hero World Tour, she can be seen playing any song on any instrument, although she only appears as a vocalist on songs with female vocals for single player modes, unless the player is already using her as a vocalist.

Appearances and Outfits[]

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock[]

J-Popstar[]

Midori appears to be a young girl tall in height. She has long purple hair tied into two ponytails held with orange scrunchies, which whips around frequently and often very quickly, resembling the odango hairstyle. Her outfit is mainly purple; she wears a dark purple cardigan with a lilac-lavender blouse with stars on the side under, a purple and white miniskirt with a green belt to secure it, green long stockings and purple Mary Jane-based high heels. She also wears a backpack with as many faces as possible on it, depending on the outfit.

Midori often smiles in a majority of her outfits, with one of her backpacks saying, "School's out ... Forever!!!". If one looks very closely at her heels from her J-Popstar outfit, there are bells on both sides of her high heels. Starting from Guitar Hero: Smash Hits, Midori wears wears a sneaker version of her high heels, now called the Cat Bells.

  • Amethyst: See above.
  • Ruby: She has red hair instead of purple and yellow dress with red trims.
  • Jade: She has greener than purple.
  • Candy: She has hair and pink dress like cotton candy.
  • Apricot (Guitar Hero: Aerosmith only): Orange and white jacket, orange skirt and shoes, and green socks.
  • Leprechaun (Guitar Hero: Aerosmith only): Even more green, but with orange socks.
  • Tickled (Guitar Hero: Aerosmith only): Orange hair, pink and black jacket, red socks, and black shoes.

Also, her hair is now back to its natural black color, with green pom poms. Trivia[]

  • Midori is the Japanese word for "green" (緑), which is poked fun in Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, where several in-game outfit descriptions talk about Midori living the "green" (ecofriendly) lifestyle.
  • Midori's name and biography could make her a reference to Midori Goto, a famous Japanese violinist.
  • Kaiju Megadome (獣 メ ガ ド ム ー ム Kaijū Megadōmu) might be Midori's personal favorite venue in Guitar Hero III as it's set in her home country of Japan.
  • According to Guitar Hero III's character designer, Cameron Scott Davis, Midori was supposed to be named Midori Sour, after the cocktail, but Activision were unable to get legal sign off on the name due to the brand of liquor that coined the name.
