“ | "Alien"? Yes, that is the term. I'm an Alien! | „ |
~ Mikitaka introducing himself |
Mikitaka Hazekura, self proclaimed as Nu Mikitakazo Nshi, is a supporting character in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part IV: Diamond is Unbreakable. He's a self-proclaimed "alien" from a distant planet who lives in the town of Morioh disguised as a human high-school student. He wields the shapeshifting ability known as Earth Wind and Fire, which may or may not be a stand.
He's voiced by Yasuyuki Kase, who also voiced Kankurō in Naruto, Walther Lindstedt in Code Geass: Roze of the Recapture and Vision in the Japanese dub of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the English dub, he's voiced by Mark Whitten.
Personality[]
Although his true nature is left ambiguous, Mikitaka himself claims to be a 216 year old alien who came to Earth after his planet got destroyed. He's a soft spoken individual who occasionally displays some strange and erratic behaviors that could indicate that he's actually an extraterrestrial, such as when he ate a tissue that Josuke gave him to clean his blood. Because of this, he's shown to be quite naive to human customs, rendering him succeptible to being fooled or taken advantage of. One of his most notable characteristics is that he has an allergy for loud siren noises, and hearing them gives him intense distress and even some physical effects, such as skin rashing.
Despite his strange quirks, Mikitaka is shown to be an extremely kind person who's often more than willing to return favors or help people in general. He has a special affinity for animals and even carries around a pet mouse in his bag. While he often has no qualms about telling others about his nature as an alien, this also puts into question if the whole thing might be just an elaborate act, with his mother (who according to him is actually a random human he brainwashed into thinking she's his mother) saying that he likes going around pretending to be an extraterrestrial, likely just for attention. Regardless it is never confirmed if Mikitaka is indeed telling the truth or not.
History[]
Due to his unreliability as a narrator and the character's overall ambiguity, Mikitaka has been given two conflicting backstories, neither of which are confirmed to be the real one.
Self-Proclaimed Background[]
Mikitaka was a 216 year old alien intergalactic pilot by the name of Nu Mikitakazo Nshi, hailing from a planet from the Magellanic Clouds. After his home planet got destroyed, Mikitakakazo departed on his spaceship in search for an habitable planet to call his new home, in which he found Earth. After arriving in Morioh in July 1999, he took on the human identity of a japanese highschool student by the name of "Mikitaka Hazekura" in order to blend in the human population, with him brainwashing a woman into believing that she was his mother to top off his disguise.
Alleged Background by His Mother[]
Prior to he events of Diamond is Unbreakable, Mikitaka and his mother used to live in Tokyo together. In his old school, he started a rumor that he himself was an alien, to which a lot of the students believed him and took him seriously, something that, according to her, "caused a lot of fuss". They both would move to Morioh in July 1999.

Alien or Stand User?[]
“ | What the hell is going on here?! Just who the devil was that oddball?! Was he serious about being an alien? Or was he simply a stand user I created when I threw the arrow and cut his neck. The way that boy was able to drive a wedge between Josuke and Rohan was certainly a sight to behold... | „ |
~ Yoshihiro Kira's confusion about Mikitaka's identity |
Mikitaka's true nature as an alien is a hot topic of discussion within the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure community as the story is intentionally vague about it. Throughout Diamond is Unbreakable, there are several clues dropped both for and against the alien theory, depending on the reading:
Scenario | Pro-Alien Theory | Anti-Alien Theory |
---|---|---|
During his first appearance, Yoshihiro's stand arrow is drawn towards Mikitaka, but after being shot at him, he arrow simply bounces off his body like it's nothing, although we later see that the arrow simply created a small wound in his neck. Afterwards, Mikitaka feels ill and passes out. | The arrow did not work on Mikitaka because he's from a different planet, therefore his alien physiology prevented him from getting a stand. Despite this, the virus present on the arrow still affected him in some way, giving him just a mild headache, making him pass out. | Explanation 1: The arrow bounced off Mikitaka because of his stand ability. Him already being a stand user would also explain why the arrow felt an attraction to him in the first place. |
Explanation 2: The arrow did work on Mikitaka as it managed to pierce his skin, leading to him awakening Earth Wind and Fire. | ||
Mikitaka has an immense aversion towards siren sounds, with the hearing of it causing an intense allergic reaction on him. | Mikitaka's alien race has a biological aversion to loud sounds as part of their DNA. This would explain why he seems to be affected by the sounds even in times that it would be innappropriate to do so, such as Josuke's game with Rohan. | Although we see him getting physically affected by the sounds, this could either also be an extension of his lie, possibly by using Earth Wind and Fire to alter his appearance, or it could simply be a strange biological quirk that he has (as things like these are not uncommon for human characters in JoJo) and he simply combined it with his alien act. Another explanation could be that this is simply a side effect of his own stand. |
Mikitaka has an ability by the name of Earth Wind and Fire that gives him the power to shapeshift. When Josuke tries to punch him with Crazy Diamond as a test, Mikitaka doesn't flinch at all. | Explanation 1: Earth Wind and Fire is actually simply an alien ability he has as part of his biology, which would explain why he seemingly cannot see stands. | Mikitaka actually can see Crazy Diamond and is lying to keep his façade. He seems unaffected by the punch because he has very good control of his reflexes and could detect Crazy Diamond coming to him and still do nothing about it as to further convince Josuke. |
Explanation 2: Mikitaka is indeed a stand user, but an extraterrestrial one, and the stands of his planet function differently from ours, which is why he couldn't see Crazy Diamond. It's also possible that the arrow could have gave him the stand, but because of his alien biology, his body reacted differently to the virus and he's unable to see human stands. | ||
Mikitaka claims to have a spaceship that he used to travel to our planet, but he says that it stays 1,500,000 km above Earth on orbit the entire time. Josuke and Okuyasu also find him for the first time lying in a crop circle. | The spaceship is real and Mikitaka is telling the truth. The crop circle where he was found was created by the spaceship as it landed on the ground. | Mikitaka is lying and there is no spaceship. The crop circle he was found was faked by him as simply a part of his act. While making it, Mikitaka passed out as a reaction the stand arrow's virus and was found by Josuke and Okuyasu. |
Mikitaka's mother claims that he just likes to go around telling people he's an alien for attention, something that started ever since they lived in Tokyo prior to moving to Morioh. According to Mikitaka, however, that woman is not actually his mother, but rather a random person he brainwashed into believing she was his mother as part of his human disguise. | Mikitaka is telling the truth and that woman is not actually his mother. The memories of them living together in Tokyo were implanted by him as to make her help his disguise. Him telling people that he's an alien, but still dropping hints of the contrary is likely just a tactic to fool people even more about his true nature, hiding it in plain sight. | Mikitaka's mother is telling the truth and he likely gets a kick from convincing people that he's an alien in an elaborate act as a part of his persona, which explains why despite claiming to be an alien, he has no qualms about telling other people about it, even though he seemingly wants to maintain a human disguise |
Trivia[]
- Mikitaka's surname comes from the Sendai town, Hazekuramachi, whereas his stand's (?) name comes from the American R&B band, Earth, Wind & Fire.
- In JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, Viviano Westwood's stand was erroneously called "Earth Wind and Fire" as Araki had forgotten that he had already used this name for Mikitaka's ability. The stand was later renamed to "Planet Waves" in reference to the eponymous Bob Dylan album.
- Mikitaka's true nature as an alien is still unknown to this day and Araki refuses to confirm the truth. According to him, aliens are just barely acceptable in the universe of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
- Mikitaka's appearance might have been inspired by the Nordic aliens that appear in certain real life recountings of alien sighting. Just like these alleged aliens, Mikitaka is a fair-skinned humanoid with long, blonde hair, blue eyes and pointy years.
