Mileena is one of the main protagonists of Mortal Kombat 1. Unlike her counterparts, who are malicious, monstrous clones, this version of Mileena is a benevolent anti-heroine, the biological and royal daughter of Queen Sindel and King Jerrod of the Edenian empire and elder twin sister of Kitana.
Like her counterpart in Mortal Kombat 11, she is voiced by Kari Wahlgren, who also voices Kitana from the alternate timeline and her counterpart in the New Era, Charmcaster in the Ben 10 series, Jill Valentine in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Vicki Vale in the Batman: Arkham City DLC Harley Quinn's Revenge, Mina Monroe in Bunnicula, Starfire in the DC Animated Movie Universe and Injustice 2, and Chloe Carmichael in The Fairly OddParents.

Background[]
After Liu Kang liberated the hourglass, he was free to craft a New Era of his own design. In this New Era, Mileena is the daughter of Sindel and Jerrod and the elder twin sister of Kitana. As the eldest, Mileena is the heir to the throne of Outworld. However, following the death of her father, Jerrod, Mileena found herself in doubt.
Mortal Kombat 1[]
During one of her journeys, she was infected with Tarkat, a disease that turns those infected into fanged monsters. Fearing the worst, the family did their best to keep Mileena's illness a secret until a cure was found. Shang Tsung came to tell them how he would be able to cure Mileena as he was developing medicine. He manages to develop a cure, but due to suspicions from Liu Kang, three of Earthrealm's champions are sent to investigate the sorcerer. When they see Shang Tsung prepare to inject Mileena, they presume he is trying to harm her and stop him. However, they soon find out it was a cure as Mileena turns into a monstrous form, with the Tarkat driving her into a blind rage, until she stabbed out Kenshi's eyes. Thus the Earthrealm champions have to subdue her until Shang Tsung can administer the cure.
After that, Shang lies about the Earthrealmers threatening the princess's life and has them arrested. It is soon confirmed that Shang Tsung only cure Mileena to be in good graces with Sindel and was conspiring against her with General Shao and Quan Chi. As Liu Kang and Li Mei arrive to inform the Empress of this treason, she and the princesses fight them due to not believing them. Mileena begins to change again, forcing Li Mei to subdue her to administer the medicine again. Grateful, Sindel hears Liu Kang out before being presented evidence. With the proof of treachery in Outworld, Sindel and her daughters fight the traitors with Liu Kang.
Mileena assists in closing the soul gates before fighting Ermac. Upon emerging victorious, the soul of her father takes full control of Ermac and thanks Mileena. With Jerrod joining them in the fight, the group make their way to Shang Tsung's location. Mileena serves as a diversion, pretending to have betrayed the group and claiming that Shao had successfully usurped her mother back in Outworld. Once the guard of both sorcerers are lowered, the party delivers a surprise attack. Shang Tsung reveals the one who had helped him to become a sorcerer as somebody named Damashi who begins to appear before them. It turns out though that Damashi is actually another Shang Tsung who had become the Keeper of Time in an alternate timeline, and came to the New Era to trick the Shang Tsung of Liu Kang's timeline with the intent of merging his own timeline with it.
As the party fights, the Tarkat disease causes Mileena to get riled up again as she fights down Titan Shang Tsung's soldiers. However, Sindel is fatally wounded by Shang Tsung's Sindel, causing Mileena to target and take her down. With the threat dealt with, Mileena has Tanya inject the medicine into her before rushing to her mother's side. It is there that Mileena is crowned the new Empress of Outworld. Sindel passes away with her soul becoming one with Jerrod's body.
Part 2: Khaos Reigns[]
Mileena and her sister, Kitana is mostly serves as a minor characters, they had some business to do in Outworld. They are absent for most of the DLC. However, Mileena's disease never shown in any of the cutscenes.

Edenian/Tarkatan Physiology: Mileena was a regular Edenian until she was infected with Tarkat disease. This disease had made her into a Edenian/Tarkatan hybrid.
- Longevity: Since Edenains are touched by the divine, she can live for a very long time. She has lived for over 10,000 years.
- Magic: Mileena possesses magical abilities which has resulted mostly in a pink aura.
- Teleportation: Mileena has the ability to teleport from above and below.
- Superhuman Strength: Mileena possesses supernatural strength since she is Edenian and her strength has increased a lot more when she's in her Tarkatan form.
- Superhuman Durability: Mileena possesses supernatural durability. She is able to withstand powerful blows from Ermac, Dark Raiden, and Dark Sindel.
- Superhuman Speed: Mileena possesses supernatural speed, agility and reflexes.
- Superhuman Agility: Mileena possesses supernatural agility.

- Superhuman Stamina: Mileena can fight for long period of time without showing signs of fatigue.
- Tarkatan Fangs: When the disease manifests, she is able to instinctively use the fangs as lethal weapons.

- Master Martial Artist: As a girl, Mileena was trained in martial arts by Li Mei. As the years went by, she has become a lot better in unarmed combat. Her kombat skills had allowed her to defeat the likes of Ermac, Sareena, Shang Tsung, Quan Chi, Dark Raiden, Dark Sindel, and Dark Nitara. Her fighting style is combination of martial arts like Ying Yeung, Mian Chuan, and Saijutsu.
- Sai Mastery: Mileena is extremely proficient in using her Sais. She uses it mostly when she fights. Mileena was able to fight off the Dragon Army by combining Saijutsu with hand-to-hand combat.
- Master Acrobat: Mileena is a very skilled acrobat. She puts a lot of gymnastics into her style. Mileena can do flips and cartwheels when evading attacks or attacking her opponents.
- Gifted Intelligence: Mileena displayed a great level of intelligence.
- Deception: She was able to fool the sorcerers into thinking that she betrayed her family and Outworld. Although, she was not able to hide away her Tarkat disease from her mother and sister.

- Master Leader: Mileena has strong leadership skills when she was the heir to the throne and when she became Empress.
- Indomitable Will: Although Mileena can be somewhat impulsive, she does have an unbreakable spirit. Despite being infected with Tarkat, she would always do what it takes to protect her role as Sindel's heir. Also, her bond with Tanya is forbidden and could cause a scandal. Despite all these problems and rules that she has to deal with, she would always not let anything happen that could doom her family and everything she cares about.

Trivia[]
- Unlike previous versions, this Mileena wasn't created by the order of Shao Kahn, but is a biological daughter of King Jerrod and Queen Sindel, thus the older sister of Kitana, as opposed to younger modified clone.
- Since in the New Era, Tarkatans aren't a species, but a transmutable disease called Tarkat, Mileena displayed her characteristic fanged mouth due to being infected by Tarkat, rather than being a genetic hybrid of Edenian and Tarkatan material. However, she can receive treatment, initially created by Shang Tsung, that suppresses the Tarkat to the point she appeared to be her normal self.
- This is the first Mileena to have a legitimate love interest, who is Tanya.
- Unlike past timelines, Mileena and Kitana have a positive relationship, if sometimes strained due to pressures from royal obligations.
