Story[]
Background[]
Mina was born in Karanes District in the year 835 on March the 24th. Twelve years later, Mina enlisted in the military and became a member of the 104th Training Corps at southern Wall Rose.
104th Training Corps Arc[]
Mina was first seen during the Trainee inauguration ceremony and started being scolded by Instructor Shadis while she has to tell her name and hometown.
She’s seen later that same day together with, Eren, Armin, Connie, and Marco. They are watching Sasha having to run lapses as punishment for eating food during the inauguration. Eren notices a carriage full of people riding away from the Trainee site and Mina explains that they are dropouts who prefer to work on the fields, as the military isn’t suited for them, much to Eren’s dismay. Marco then asks Eren where exactly he’s from and he responds that both Armin and him are from Shiganshina District, which causes Mina and a lot of other Trainees to begin asking Eren questions about what he experienced in the evening, at dinner in the canteen. Mina asks what the Colossal Titan looks like. Eren responds by saying that it was completely skinless with a huge mouth and that it was big enough to have its head over the wall, shocking Mina and the other Trainees. When Samuel asks Eren what a normal Titan looks like, the latter becomes stunned and puts his hand on his mouth from distress. Mina and the rest become immediately still from seeing this, but Eren pretends to be fine.
One year later in the year 848, Mina is seen during the surveillance training mission, where the Cadets are tested to keep their vigilance in check during times of peace. She’s seen together with a group led by Marco and Armin being the record keeper, with the other members being Eren, Jean, Sasha, Connie and Christa. While ahorse, she silently watches as Jean and Eren argue about the importance of this training exercise, which is interrupted by Sasha. That night, Mina watches the two getting into an argument once again in the night, but she keeps to herself. When she and the others are asleep, they are suddenly ambushed by bandits who are planning to steal their 3DM gear so they can sell it on the black market. Eren recklessly tries to fight back and orders everyone else to do the same, but Mina and the rest just look on in bewilderment, causing Eren to be knocked down. The bandits take all their gear equipment and kidnap Christa as well, claiming they will release her as soon as they get far enough with their carriages, much to the Cadets' skepticism.
Eren later on convinces Mina and the others to follow and trap the thieves so they can get Christa back. After Sasha tells them that they have to reach a high point so they can view their surroundings better, they climb on a tall rockslide, with Mina then comforting an exhausted Armin. Jean notices and points to a campfire sighting and they see the thieves. Their assumption is that the bandits are going to the nearest city in the region, so the Cadets begin to set up a trap along the way with Mina acting as the lookout. They are capable of ambushing the rear carts and get their 3DM gear back, with Jean and Eren then take down the front cart. Christa is eventually saved by Mikasa, who saw a smoke signal from Armin and arrived first along with Annie. Then Marco's team meets up with the team led by Thomas Wagner, from which Mikasa and Annie belong to, and they all restrain the bandits, before reporting them to the Military Police, who arrest the criminals, and then finally back to Instructor Shadis.
Two years later, in the year 850 (still 848 in the manga version), Mina is seen sitting in the canteen together with Annie. They look on as Eren and Jean start to get into another argument as usual, with Eren then flooring Jean on the ground. Suddenly, Instructor Shadis comes in and asks what the noise was. Mikasa says that Sasha farted, causing Mina and many other Trainees to chuckle.
Battle of Trost District Arc[]
Sometime after that (two years later in the manga version), Mina’s training is over, and she is ranked outside of the top 10. At dinner, at Trost District, she’s seen celebrating with the others but overhears Eren and Jean/Thomas (arguing with Jean in the manga and recap movie version, and with Thomas in the anime one), arguing about Eren’s motivation for joining the Survey Corps despite being in the top 10, which makes him eligible to be in the Military Police straight away. Jean and Thomas believe that humanity doesn’t have a chance against the Titans, with Mina herself being rather unsure, but as Eren gives a motivational and idealistic speech, she and some other Trainees become much more hopeful. In the original manga version, and in that of the recap movie, Jean answers to Eren's speech with mockery, declaring him a deluded fool, which results in a physical fist fight between the two, whilst Mina and all the other Trainees watch, with the majority cheering on. The fight is interrupted by Mikasa lifting Eren and by Reiner, Franz, and Hannah stopping Jean.
The following morning, Mina is atop Trost's southern wall, cleaning up artillery cannons of the Garrison with Eren, Connie, Thomas, Sasha, and Samuel. She tells Eren that she and a few others have been thinking of joining the Survey Corps after hearing his words, including Thomas and Connie. Sasha suddenly walks up to them and reveals that she has stolen some meat from the officers, shocking Mina and the others. But when Samuel tells her he would like a slice, Mina jokingly joins in as well. Completely out of nowhere, the Colossal Titan appears, and a huge steam wave blows Mina and the others from the wall. The Titan kicks a whole into the outer gate, whilst Mina uses her 3DM gear to propel herself onto the side of the wall. Samuel falls down having hit his head onto the rubble, but Mina watches as Sasha saves him. Eren then yells at Mina and the others to help him fight the Titan, but she keeps in her position being too afraid to do anything else. After Eren fails to kill the Colossal, the group is joined by Garrison officers, who send them back to the headquarters to give their report and prepare for the evacuation of civilians and to hear for instructions. As the Trainees all regroup back to HQ and the citizens gather to the inner gate, the Garrison engages the Pure Titans on the south, who begin entering the city after wiping out the whole vanguard.
Under the command of Captain Kitz Woermann, Mina and the other Trainees are put in the middle guard and are then divided into squads, with Mina being put into squad 34, together with Thomas, Eren, Armin, Nac and Milieus. As Armin is more pessimistic, Eren sees this as a way to gain experience, with Mina and Thomas rejoicing with him and motivate each other. They get the orders to move out and as the squad advances, they notice that Titans have quickly reached the middle parts of the city. Slowly the realization of the situation begins to kick in. Out of nowhere, a jumping Abnormal Titan launches itself to the squad and as Mina and the others are capable of evading it, Thomas is caught by it, and is stuck in its mouth. Mina watches in shock as Thomas is then swallowed whole. Eren is overcome with rage and quickly goes after the Titan, with Mina and the rest of her teammates bewilderingly follow him. Eren is then attacked by another Titan, who bites off his leg, shocking all the other squad members. As Mina calls out for him, Nac is swatted by a Titan midair and Mina’s wire from her 3DM gear is pulled by a much smaller Titan, causing her to fall to the ground and crash to a wall, knocking her unconscious. That same Titan looks down at her with its hand on its knees, picks her up and bites trough her head, killing her.
Mina’s death is later reported by Armin as he states the death of his squamates.
After the battle of Trost District was over, whatever was left of Mina's corpse would be burned together with the other 207 deceased soldiers who died in action.
Royal Government Arc[]
Two months later, underneath the Reiss Chapel, Eren tearfully recalls Mina as one of the many people that died because his father stole the Founding Titan from the royal family.
Marley Arc[]
After the death of Sasha, Eren recalls the moment when Sasha presented the stolen meat to Mina and the others on top of the wall.
