Minamo Kurosawa is a recurring character in Azumanga Daioh.

Also known as Nyamo, she is a gym teacher at the high school where the main characters attend.

Appearance[]

Nyamo has long, dark hair and is often seen wearing athletic or casual clothing. She has a more mature and athletic appearance compared to some of the other characters.

Personality[]

Nyamo is portrayed as a friendly and outgoing character. She is also shown to be more level-headed and responsible than some of the other teachers, often acting as a foil to her friend and colleague Yukari Tanizaki, who is known for her eccentric and unpredictable behavior.

She aims to be a responsible and compassionate teacher, which makes her well-liked by every student; this provokes envy from Yukari who, despite their friendship, enjoys embarrassing Nyamo to make her lose her normally strong composure and dignity. Nyamo usually ignores the provocations, but sometimes feels obligated to answer them just to put Yukari in her place, such as easily defeating her in a swimming race, which Nyamo is applauded for by the girls, while Yukari still flails in the water.

On a school trip, Yukari coaxes Nyamo into drinking enough alcohol to remove her inhibitions, thereby Nyamo ends up revealing explicit details of her past love life to the students. While fighting a hangover the next day, the girls question her about the raunchy tidbits she shared, much to her humiliation, thus one of the few times Yukari is able to outwit her.
