Don't misread me. Roses make me puke. They are just flashy. They don't have any kindness in them. Do you know why roses have thorns? It is to bring out their own red using the blood of the people they hurt. They'll do anything for their own happiness.
~ Miranda

Sacred Sister Miranda (ミランダ) of Mille Seseau is a supporting protagonist in the 1999 video game The Legend of Dragoon, and the final playable character to join the main party. She replaces Shana in Disc 3 when the latter feels her Dragoon Spirit rejects her as its host in the chamber of the Signet Sphere while the group is visiting the Crystal Palace in Deningrad. Despite her abrasive personality, she is also a healer, and tended to the sick and the wounded even before she joined the party. She is the character of choice for using magic attack items, with the highest Magic Attack of the party.

She is voiced by Yoko Soumi in the Japanese version of the game and by Mo Mellady in the English version.

Appearance[]

Miranda has long golden blonde hair that extends just past her shoulders and brown eyes. She also wears a red headband similar to Dart's, but it features copper detailing as well. Her primary outfit consists of a white long-sleeved dress protected by a red neck-high breastplate, gauntlets and a belt with the same copper detailing, and long brown boots that reach all the way up to her thighs with folded sleeves at the top. Like Shana, she wields a bow and arrow during battle, albeit one that is more ornate and a darker color.

As a Dragoon, she mostly wears light tan armor with orange accents along with black leggings underneath. All in all, her appearance is fairly similar to that of Shirley's, but quite different to Shana's.

Personality[]

Ironically, despite replacing Shana and having the same battle stats as her, Miranda's personality is very different from hers. She is very outspoken, blunt and no-nonsense, to the extent that at one point, Haschel makes a joke about how she "might have some women in her" after all when she seemed like she might like roses, before she corrects him. She also has a pretty short temper, which is shown in how harsh she is towards the soldiers who answer to her, whom she occasionally even physically strikes, on a couple of occasions where she's easily provoked by remarks made by Rose, and one case where she threatens to "mess up" one of Savan's robot-like creatures when the party is in Agil and she briefly suspects it might be on the enemy's side. It is later discovered that her mother was both physically abusive to her and abandoned her at a young age, and that her father was an irresponsible drunk who was similarly abusive, which certainly played a large part in her shaping out to be this way.

Despite her flaws though, Miranda is also very brave, loyal, reliable, honorable, and even caring in her own way. She has an especially close relationship with her adoptive mother Queen Theresa because of her taking her in when she had no else growing up and essentially giving her a new life. Among other things, she is very devoted to serving her to the best of her ability to repay her for all this and so protective of her that she gets mortified at even the thought of something bad happening to her. She's similarly very close with all of her adoptive sisters, and shows both great concern for them when Deningrad gets attacked by the Divine Dragon and subsequent relief when they turn out to be safe. This even extends to those she seems harsh to at first, such as when she shows great sadness when she witnesses one of Savan's creations shutting down and essentially dying due to Savan's death and no longer having his magic to keep them going, despite previously threatening one of them and having testy exchanges with another during her bravery test. Another example of her sensitive side is when she's apologetic for unintentionally causing Shana to pass out after praising her mysterious ability, which causes her stress due to it being a great source of insecurity and angst for her due to it feeling it was the source of so many problems, not just for her, but the people around her.

She also sticks with Dart and company in part because just after the others visited Shana before leaving her in Deningrad, she privately pleaded to her to take care of the rest of them, a promise she feels bound to uphold. She also never shies away from standing by her companions in battle no matter how intimidating or powerful the enemy is and continues to stick with them even when the stakes of their journey unexpectedly increase, determined to help them prevent the Virage Embryo's birth so they can save the world from destruction.

Abilities and Attributes[]

Like Shana, Miranda uses a bow and arrow as her weapon of choice and has equally good marksmanship skills due to her battle experience as a general. Despite being far more experienced than her, however, she still has the exact same stats as her in combat, complete with the same strengths and weaknesses; on the one hand, she's got the same weak physical attack and defense, making her both pretty vulnerable to regular attacks from enemies and unable to do much damage with her own primary attack, especially since she can't use additions/combo attacks. However, she also has great speed, giving her a good amount of turns, and her magical attack and defense are similarly very strong, giving her great offensive potential if she uses magical attack items.

Once she inherits the White-Silver Dragoon Spirit from Shana, she gains the ability to use the same light element magic that she previously could. This means that, ironically, despite her personality not lining up with it as much, she mostly specializes in acting as a healer for her companions thanks to abilities like Moon Light and Gates of Heaven, with her only attack spell being the fairly weak Star Children. However, with patience and perseverance, she can also gain the ability to use White Silver Dragon, an extremely powerful spell that both inflicts major damage on the enemy and fully heals the whole party, made all the more dangerous by her high magical attack power.
