Mistle Toad is a supporting character Toad Patrol cartoon TV series. He is based on character Mistle-Toad who served as a mascot for Mistle-Toad chocolate and cream box products.
In the show, Mistle Toad is an adult toad who is known to be obsessed with the Ancients and wants to learn everything about them. During his search for the Ancients, he frequently runs into the Toad Patrol and he often helps them in some way. Likewise, the Toad Patrol often helps Mistle Toad as he may unintentionally find himself in danger during his search for the Ancients.
Character creation
George Sarson created the character Mistle-Toad in 1984 while he was sitting and musing with some mistletoe and a box of toy frogs. He went on to use Mistle-Toad as a mascot for Mistle-Toad chocolates and cream pops which were produced by his father's company Edward Sarson Productions Inc. and ran until 1995. A round tin can was used to issue the Mistle-Toad chocolates and its theme was "World Peace" and it featured an illustration on top of the lid with Mistle-Toad and a Tunnel Toad guiding young toadlets through a Toad Tunnel. The side of the tin featured a short story which says Mistle-Toad offers each toadlet a hand to help them jump up the staircase. Mistle-Toad, the Tunnel Toad and the toadlets get consumed by a brilliant light through which they gained dignity and bearing. There is also the company's message which says Mistle-Toad sees the innocence in our mistakes and teaches us to realize the strength and dignity we all possess within ourselves.
Since 1985 Sarson was developing story for a TV series and it premiered on October 2, 1999, on Teletoon. In the show, the character Mistle Toad is an adult toad who lives in the forest and is searching for the Ancients.
History
Mistle Toad has somewhat mysterious background. He is a toad who along with his group succeeded in finding and entering the Fairy Ring before it closed and thus avoided being turned into a toadstool. He developed great, even obsessive interest in learning about the Ancients. This is why he decided to leave Toad Hollow and start his search for the mysterious group in the Great Forest. Those who met Mistle Toad would sometimes remember him as a mischief maker. During his search, he somehow managed to find The Outsider, a healer who once used to accompany other Ancients. Before leaving her, The Outsider made him promise never to visit her again.
Toad Patrol
One for All
While standing at a branch of a tree, Mistle Toad notices a group of toadlets on a piece of wood going down the river right towards the waterfall. One of them (Fur Foot) is trying to pull down a nearby branch so that they can save themselves but the branch is too high. Mistle Toad throws them his hook which Fur Foot uses to pull down the branch and the toadlets climb on the tree.
In the evening, the toadlets meet Mistle Toad under the root of a Thunder Tree. Mistle Toad introduces himself and explains them that they left the pond late. Because of this, they missed the Great Migration to Toad Hollow. Each season, the toadlets should find the Fairy Ring which leads to Toad Hollow before it closes. Under his listeners' request, Mistle Toad reluctantly reveals that if a toadlet doesn't enter the Fairy Ring in time, it will turn into a toadstool. Unfortunately, he doesn't know where the Fairy Ring but the Thunder Trees do. The toadlets then realize that Panther Cap didn't enter with them so everybody goes out where they see him looking at the Thunder Tree. Mistle Toad realizes Panther Cap can hear them so he tells him to listen to the Thunder Trees and that they will guide them to the Fairy Ring.
The Fire
Upon realizing the forest is on fire, Mistle Toad helped many animals go through a toad tunnel. In the same tunnel, he met Beauty Stem, Shaggy Mane, Slippery Jack, Oyster and Panther Cap who separated from Fur Foot, Elf Cup and Puff Ball before the fire started. The five toadlets want to go save the other three from the fire. Mistle Toad warns them that it is too dangerous and that they should stay where it is safe. Because of how much they care about the family, the toadlets don't want to stay but Mistle Toad eventually manages to convince Beauty Stem. In the end, the fire is put out by the water from the river and Mistle Toad is surprised when Fur Foot, Elf Cup and Puff Ball arrive safe and sound.

Powers and abilities
- Limited telepathy: Specifically, Mistle Toad can send his thoughts to the toads who can hear the Thunder Trees. Those toads can hear his thoughts the same way they can hear the Thunder Trees. This way Mistle Toad can send messages to far-off locations including Toad Hollow. It should be noted that he is unable to hear other creature's thought.
Equipment
- Staff: Mistle Toad carries a wooden staff with blue crystal. It can be used to send light signals.
- Hook (formerly): Mistle Toad used to have a hook made out of an animal claw. There are multiple ways in which it can be used such as reaching far-off objects, helping holder scale obstacles and for cutting. It can also be thrown like a boomerang. Mistle Toad gave it to the Toad Patrol to save them and since then it has been used by Fur Foot.
