Mito Uzumaki is a major character in the Naruto anime/manga series. She was a kunoichi, the wife of Hashirama Senju, and the first jinchūriki of the Nine-Tails Kurama.
She was voiced by Mary Elizabeth McGlynn in the English version.

Mito was born in the Land of Whirlpools in the famous Uzumaki Clan. Since the clan had close ties with and distantly related to the Senju Clan, Mito was married to Hashirama Senju, the leader of the Senju Clan and the First Hokage.
A few years later, Madara Uchiha returned to the Hidden Leaf Village with the Nine-tailed Fox at his disposal and battled Hashirama. Mito eventually came to her husband's aid by using a powerful sealing jutsu by absorbing the demon fox into herself and becoming the jinchuuriki to the demon so that Madara will never take control of it.
Mito became the grandmother of Tsunade and Nawaki. As she was nearing death, Kushina Uzumaki was chosen as her successor of becoming Kurama's jinchūriki. Mito even comfort the frightened Kushina by telling her that they were sent to become the vessel of the demon, and if a jinchūriki fills the empty vessel with love, then that person will live a happy life.
