Her clothing consist of a white school uniform with a red bow and a grey skirt that her shirt is tucked into, accompanied by her wearing a pear of brown loafers and black stockings along with them.
As an adult, Mitsuha's hair has grown drastically, now being past shoulder length. She wears a yellow shirt, white sweater, and a silver necklace with a star on it. Her pants are peach and she wears a brown belt and yellow high heels.
Biography[]
Mitsuha Miyamizu is a high school girl living in the rural town of Itomori, Japan. Bored of the town, she wishes to be a Tokyo boy in her next life. One day, she inexplicably begins to switch bodies intermittently with Taki Tachibana, a high school boy in Tokyo, experiencing their different lives. Mitsuha (in Taki's body) sets Taki up on a date with coworker Miki Okudera, while Taki (in Mitsuha's body) causes Mitsuha to become popular at school. One day, Taki, in Mitsuha's body, accompanies Mitsuha's grandmother and younger sister to leave the ritual alcohol kuchikamizake, made by the sisters, as an offering at the Shinto shrine located on a mountaintop outside the town. Taki reads a note from Mitsuha about the comet Tiamat, expected to pass nearest to Earth on the day of the autumn festival. The next day, Taki wakes up in his body and goes on a date with Miki, who tells him she enjoyed the date but also that she can tell he is preoccupied with thoughts of someone else. Taki attempts to call Mitsuha on the phone but cannot reach her as the body-switching ends.
Taki, Tessie and Miki travel to Gifu by train on a trip to Hida in search of Mitsuha. However, Taki does not know the name of Itomori, relying on his sketches of the surrounding landscape from memory. A restaurant owner in Takayama recognizes the town in the sketch, being from there. He takes Taki and his friends to the ruins of Itomori, where 500 residents were killed when Tiamat unexpectedly fragmented as it passed by Earth in 2013. Taki observes Mitsuha's messages disappearing from his phone, and his memories of her begining to fade, realizing that they were separated by time, as he is in 2016. Taki finds Mitsuha's name in the record of fatalities. Miki and Tsukasa return to Tokyo, but Taki goes to the shrine, hoping to reconnect with Mitsuha and warn her about Tiamat. He drinks Mitsuha's kuchikamizake and then lapses into a vision, where he glimpses Mitsuha's past. He recalls that he encountered Mitsuha on a train when she came to Tokyo the day before the event to find him, though Taki did not recognize her as the body-switching was yet to occur in his timeframe. Before leaving the train in embarrassment, Mitsuha had handed him her hair ribbon, which he has since worn on his wrist as a good-luck charm.
Taki wakes up in Mitsuha's body at her house that morning of the festival. Hitoha deduces that the body switching ability runs in the Miyamizu bloodline. Taki has Tessie and Sayaka to tell the citizens of Itomori to evacuate with a false emergency alert and shutting off the power supply, but to no avail. Taki heads to the shrine, realizing that Mitsuha must be in his body, while Mitsuha wakes up in Taki's body. At sunset, the two sense each other's presence on the mountaintop but are separated by time and cannot see each other. Magic Hour passes, and they return to their own bodies. Taki returns Mitsuha's ribbon, and they attempt to write their names on each other's palms so that they will remember each other. Mitsuha can write hers, twilight passes, and they revert to their respective timeframes. When the evacuation plan fails, Mitsuha has to convince her father, Toshiki, the mayor of Itomori, to evacuate everyone. Before doing so, Mitsuha notices her memories of Taki are fading away and discovers he wrote "I love you" on her hand instead of his own name. Tiamat crashes, and Taki, in his own timeframe, remembers nothing.
Since then, Mitsuha has moved to Tokyo. Sometime later, she and Taki glimpse at each other when their respective trains pass each other and are instantly drawn to seek one another, disembarking and racing to find the other, stopping at the Suga Shrine. Taki calls out to Mitsuha, saying that he feels he knows her, and she responds likewise. Finally found what each other had long searched for, they shed tears of happiness and ask each other for their name.
Personality[]
Mitsuha is a kind-hearted and selfless girl. She cares deeply for her friends and family and is a loyal companion to have. She's also shown to have a very organized personality, due to how well she operates her job in her family's shrine.
Mitsuha is also very free-spirited, as she desires to travel and live in Tokyo rather than simply living her life as her family's shrine maiden. Another reason for her dislike of her job as a shrine maiden is the teasing she faced from her classmates as a result. This caused her to grow embarrassed about her family's position.
However, after switching bodies with Taki, Mitsuha has been shown to be much happier and more upbeat than before. Due to finally being able to live out the life she's always dreamed of, Mitsuha is much more free-spirited and energetic, actively going out of her way to make the most of everything she does with Taki's friends such as snapping photographs of generally mundane desserts and spending a large amount of money while out at the café with them.
Trivia[]
- Like many residents of Itomori in the original Japanese version, Mitsuha speaks in the Kansai dialect, involving her featuring the verb ya (instead of the standard da) in her sentences.
- According to Sayaka, Mitsuha ended up attending school in bed hair on the first day of her being in Taki's body.
- Mitsuha is heavily hinted to have a sweet tooth, as demonstrated by her frequently gorging on large amounts of sweets and desserts while in Taki's body.
