Biography[]
Background[]
Mobius was originally a jet ski salesman named Don from a branched timeline. He lived in Cleveland, Ohio in 2022 and was a single father of two young sons, named Kevin and Sean. Mobius' timeline was eventually pruned, and Mobius was taken by the TVA, serving them for at least the next 400 years. It's unknown if Mobius was a part of the TVA during the Multiversal War, serving in He Who Remains' army, or if he joined it afterwards. However, Mobius underwent multiple memory wipes, and he was led to believe he was created by the Time-Keepers to be an agent of the Time Variance Authority, tasked with maintaining order on the Sacred Timeline, a chosen timeline that the Time-Keepers made the primary and only allowed timeline. His tasks including preventing Nexus events and subsequent alternate timelines, and detaining Variants, people who left or interfered with the Sacred Timeline.
Season 1[]
A Variant form of Loki Laufeyson, a woman named Sylvie Laufeydottir, began creating chaos, killing TVA Hunters, and stealing the reset charges that TVA Minutemen use to destroy alternate timelines. Morbius investigates the scenes of the crimes, eventually finding that the Variant has been tampering with the timelines by bringing future objects to the past, such as a pack of gum to 1549 France.
When another Variant of Loki, who broke off from the Sacred Timeline in 2012, is detained and about to be sentenced, Morbius sees an opportunity to analyze and work with the version of Loki to help capture the elusive Variant. He takes custody of Loki and interrogates him, showing him points of his past and explaining to him that, in the Sacred Timeline, he is just a means to allow the heroes to come into their own. He then shows Loki a point in his chosen future where he will indirectly lead to his adoptive mother Frigga's death in an attempt for revenge against his adoptive brother Thor. This enrages Loki, who tries to attack Mobius, but Mobius uses a device to rewind Loki in time to prevent the attack.
Mobius is called away to investigate another attack from Sylvie Laufeydottir, and returns to find Loki escaped. He teams up with Hunter B-15 to find him, but eventually finds him back in the interrogation room, dejected after seeing his future and eventual death, as well as seeing the seemingly all-powerful Infinity Stones regarded as nothing but paperweights to the TVA. Mobius appeals to Loki's inner sense of righteousness as well as his vanity, offering him purpose in catching the other Loki, to which Loki accepts.
Despite his initial agreement to cooperate, Mobius has difficulty with Loki when they go out on their first investigation of another massacre and kidnapping, this time in 1985 Wisconsin. Loki attempts to bluff and stall for time, bargaining a meeting with the Time-Keepers, but Mobius calls his bluff and takes him back to TVA headquarters while the alternate timeline is erased.
In order to encourage Loki to cooperate, Mobius task him with researching the cases to see what he can find. After a botched attempt to find files on the TVA, Loki is given his own file and looks over it. After reading about Ragnarök, the destruction of Asgard, Loki realizes something. He goes to Mobius and explains his theory (all while demonstrating on and subsequently ruining Mobius' lunch) that the Variant Loki is hiding in apocalypse-style events, as any and all activity there would be nullified and unnoticed by the later destruction. They test the theory by traveling to Pompeii in 79 AD, where Loki creates chaos, but the timeline is unaffected due to the volcano's eruption and the destruction of all evidence they were there.
Loki and Mobius research potential apocalypse events the Variant could be hiding in, and eventually take a break. Mobius explains that he has always had a fascination with jet skis, and has always wanted to ride one, but cannot without disturbing the Sacred Timeline. The two have a civil debate about the existence of free will on a pre-determined timeline and how it will end. The conversation reminds Mobious of the pack of gum, and realizes that the apocalypse event must contain the brand of gum for the Variant Loki to acquire it. The two reasearch again, and Loki figures out that the event is a hurricane in 2050 Alabama, where people attemted to hide out in a superstore that carried and owned the gum brand.
Mobius, Loki, and the Minutemen go to Alabama in 2050 to investigate. While Mobius finds the kidnapped Hunter, Loki encounters Sylvie Laufeydottir, who sends reset charges across the Sacred Timeline to create a vast amount of alternate timelines. As she leaves, Mobius sees Loki follow her before the time door closes.
Mobius looks for Loki and Sylvie throughout the Sacred Timeline. He is informed by Ravonna Renslayer that the kidnapped hunter had died due to her mind being broken by Sylvie. He eventually finds Loki and Sylvie in an apocalypse, where the two together created a unique nexus event.
Mobius interrogates Loki, asking him what happened to create such a large and unique nexus event. He discovers that Loki has fallen in love with Sylvie, and mocks him for falling in love with another version of himself. Loki informs Mobius of something that he learned from Sylive, that he and all the agents of the TVA are Variants who had their memories wioed. Though Mobius is skeptical, he invistages and, after stealing Renslayer's TemPad, discovers that the hunter that Sylvie kidnapped was actually pruned after she remembered her old life.
Realizing that Loki was telling the truth, Mobius goes to free him from the TVA, but is caught by Renslayer. She has her agents prune Mobius. Mobius is sent where all things that are pruned are sent: a Void at the end of time where everything sent there is consumed by a cosmic entity known as Alioth. Once there, Mobius comandeers a car and rescues Sylvie from Alioth, and soon meets back up with Loki, as well as various other variants of Loki from other timelines. Loki and Sylvie elect to defeat Alioth and find out who is behind the TVA and the kidnapping of Variants. Mobius bids farewell to the Lokis, even getting a hug from Variant L1130, and uses the TemPad that Sylvie brought to return to the TVA headquarters.
Mobius returns to the TVA and confronts Renslayer. After she apologizes to him, she packs up and flees, claiming she is in search of "free will". Mobius returns and finds the branching timelines beyond repair, and accepts the TVA's fate.
Later, after Sylvie murders the one behind everything, He Who Remains, the timeline branches irreparably. Loki is forced back to the TVA, only to find he was sent to the past TVA, so Mobius does not know him yet, and He Who Remains' statue is seen replacing the statues of the Time Keepers.
Season 2[]
Loki is forced to flee from Mobius, until he time slips back into the present where Mobius and Hunter B-15 are dealing with the aftermath of the public revelation of the true nature of everyone at the TVA and the branching of the Sacred Timeline. In order to fix Loki's time slipping, Mobius takes the God of Mischief to meet Ouroboros who recognizes the phenomena and aids Mobius and Loki in fixing it using the Temporal Loom and the Temporal Aura Extractor. As part of the plan, Mobius launches the Extractor into the Temporal Loom which is overloading from all of the new branched timelines, risking getting his skin peeled off to save his friend.
Mobius subsequently joins Loki in capturing and interrogating Hunter X-05 and finding Sylvie. After learning of General Dox's rogue operation, Mobius joins the two gods in trying to stop her, but they fail in saving most of the branches targeted by Dox.
Tracking Ravonna Renslayer's TemPad, Loki and Mobius find her and Miss Minutes on a branched timeline where the two are secretly grooming Victor Timely, a 19th century Variant of He Who Remains, as a replacement for the dead founder of the TVA. Needing Victor to unlock the Temporal Loom, Loki and Mobius battle Sylvie, Renslayer, Miss Minutes and a robber baron in order to protect him. After defeating Renslayer, Sylvie agrees to let Loki and Mobius take Victor with them.
As the Temporal Loom approaches meltdown, Loki, Mobius, Victor, Sylvie, B-15, Ouroboros and Casey work together to try to fix it and thwart Renslayer and Miss Minutes' plan to take over the TVA. Although the group succeeds in deactivating Miss Minutes and pruning Renslayer, the Temporal Radiation spaghettifies Victor before he can fix the Temporal Loom which explodes, engulfing the group in a massive blast wave.
Following the explosion, all of Loki's friends are reset to previous their lives on their respective branched timelines from before they were taken by the TVA with only Loki and Sylvie retaining their memories. Time slipping once again, Loki finds Mobius on a branched timeline, now Don again, a jet ski salesman and the single father of two young boys. With the help of Dr. A.D. Doug - Ouroboros from before he was kidnapped by the TVA - Loki is able to convince Don and the others to join him, hoping to use their collective Temporal Aura to determine the coordinates for the moment in time that he needs to return to in order to stop the explosion. In particular, Don is resistant to the idea of joining them, having lost his wife some time before and fearing leaving his boys alone. Loki promises Don that if it works, he can take Don back to the moment that he left so that it will be like he was never gone. Convinced that his children are in danger from this threat to all of reality, Don agrees to join Loki's team, noting that "Mobius" sounds like a cool name.
However, Sylvie refuses to help Loki, content with the destruction of the TVA and how everyone has been restored to their rightful places on their timelines. Sylvie gets a despondent Loki to admit that he's afraid of losing his friends and being alone again and Loki attempts to send everyone back home. However, Sylvie arrives with the news that all of reality is now breaking down. Witnessing his companions start to spaghettify, a frantic Don attempts to return home to his sons, but he suffers the exact same fate. Finally figuring out how to control his time slipping, Loki travels back in time to before everything had started to spaghettify, explaining to his friends that he needs to focus on the who that he wants to go back to rather than the event. Declaring that he can rewrite the story, Loki successfully travels back in time to before the explosion by focusing on Ouroboros.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania[]
In a post-credits scene, Loki and Mobius investigate a branched timeline, encountering Victor Timely who Loki recognizes as a Variant of Kang the Conqueror and He Who Remains.
