Mondo Gecko is a major character in the 2023 animated film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.
He is a mutated animal-born mutant gecko and a former member of Superfly's gang.
He was voiced by Paul Rudd; who also played Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Tommy Doyle in Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, and Gary Grooberson in Ghostbusters: Afterlife and its 2024 sequel, and also voiced Mr. Prince in The Little Prince.
History[]
Mondo Gecko is one of the many humans used by Superfly as guinea pigs for his experiment and they initially see him as a father figure, especially after being seen by humans and called "monsters", Mondo Gecko becomes convinced that humans are the real monsters and that they should be destroyed, even after the killing of his father.
Mondo Gecko is initially allied with Superfly who try to build a machine to mutate all the animals in the world so as to destroy humanity. Superfly preferred to work under the radar most of the time and hire human thugs to steal things for him, but when that wasn't enough, his family used their talents.
Eventually Mondo, thanks to the turtles, turns against Superfly and he, Bebop and Rocksteady team up with the turtles to stop him.
Trivia[]
- Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, both of which Paul Rudd starred in, came out in 2023
- His personality is based upon 1990's surfer/skater mannerisms, as well as '90's pop culture, akin to the TMNT cartoon that began in 1989, but mostly ran during the early '90's, and the TMNT film trilogy that spanned the decade.
- For some reason, Mondo Gecko, alongside Bebop and Rocksteady, didn’t appear in the tv series sequel Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
