~ Monster Girl

Amanda, better known as Monster Girl, is a major character in the comic book series Invincible and its animated adaptation of the same name.

She is voiced by Grey DeLisle.

Appearance[]

Amanda[]

In her human form, Amanda appears as a 14 year old girl, despite her true age being around 24. This physical regression is a result of her curse, which causes her to age backward with each transformation into her monster form. As a human, she has a youthful, almost childlike appearance, with a petite frame and features that reflect her regression in age. She typically wears casual, practical clothing suitable for both her daily activities and her role as a superhero.

Later in the series, thanks to one of Robot's inventions, she no longer gets younger when transforming into her Monster form thus making her appearance much more accurate to her actual age.

Monster Form[]

When Amanda transforms into a Monster, her appearance undergoes a dramatic change. In her monster form, she becomes significantly larger and more imposing, with a muscular and hulking physique. Her skin turns a greenish hue, and she gains sharp claws and fangs, giving her a fearsome and intimidating look. Her facial features become more bestial, with pronounced cheekbones, a broader nose, and a more aggressive expression that reflects the power and ferocity of her monstrous alter ego.

Personality[]

Amanda's resilience is a central aspect of her personality. Despite the physical and emotional toll of her transformations, she consistently demonstrates an ability to endure and overcome adversity. Her unwavering resolve allows her to confront the challenges of her condition directly.

Maturity is another defining trait of Amanda's personality. Though her physical form regresses in age, her experiences and wisdom provide her with a level of insight and perspective that often surpasses those of her peers. She frequently acts as a voice of reason within her team, offering guidance and stability. This juxtaposition of her youthful appearance with her mature outlook creates a unique and compelling character dynamic.

Empathy and loyalty are also significant aspects of Amanda's character. She forms deep, meaningful bonds with her teammates and friends, displaying genuine concern for their well-being. Her empathetic nature enables her to connect with others on a profound level, making her a trusted confidante and advisor. This compassionate side of Amanda contrasts with the ferocity of her monstrous alter ego, highlighting the complexity of her character.

However, Amanda's personality is not without its internal struggles. The duality of her existence—balancing her human and monstrous forms—creates a constant tension. She grapples with the desire to lead a normal life while accepting the necessity of her transformations to protect others. This internal conflict drives her to seek solutions to her condition and find a sense of identity amidst the turmoil.

Biography[]

Background[]

Amanda enrolled in a prestigious school for academically gifted students. During a class trip to Europe, she graduated two years ahead of schedule. Amanda also fell in love with a boy, but his grandmother disapproved of their relationship. Their relationship took a complicated turn when the grandmother, who was a witch, when she witnessed Amanda and the boy having sex, she cursed a strand of her hair. On the plane ride back from the trip, Amanda cried after discovering that she had transformed into a monster. Initially unable to control her transformation, she eventually learned to manipulate it at will. However, each transformation caused her to age in reverse. Despite this, Amanda used her powers to fight crime under the alias "Monster Girl" and continued doing so despite the adverse effects on her aging.

Powers & Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Cursed Physiology: Due a curse placed on her, Monster Girl possesses the supernatural ability to transform herself into a large green masucline-looking humanoid creature. At first, she wasn't able to control it, but would eventually gain control of it through practice. Her monster form grants her the following abilities:
    • Supernatural Transformation: With to the curse, Amanda can transforms into a masculine-looking troll-like monster being at will.
    • Accelerated Healing Factor: When transformed, Monster Girl can easily recover from injury and damage faster.
    • Superhuman Strength: Monster Girl possesses a great amount of strength, enabling her to lift in excess of 60 tons. It is conceivable her strength will increase in proportion to her increase in size.
    • Superhuman Durability: Amanda's transformation causes her muscles to become larger, attributing to her superhuman weight. Her body's skin is immune to most forms of conventional injury, including extremes in temperature and pressure, open flame, severe cold, radiation, and concussive forces such as impacts and explosions. It also increases the amount of punishment she can take to an exceptional level.

Abilities[]

  • Enhanced combat: Amanda is proficient in close combat when fighting Rex Splode. As Monster Girl, her combat style relies on instinct and sheer brute force, which would be her downfall against Battle Beast who, as well as an immensely powerful being, was also a highly skilled cobatant.

Weaknesses[]

  • Reversed Aging: When Amanda reverts to human form, she becomes younger. This gives Amanda the appearance of a young girl as opposed to her actual age of 29 (29 in the Show). Robot would soon discover the solution to this problem, when he gave her a belt that would store part of her original cells when she transforms and keep them until she reverts back, helping her maintain her physiological age. With this and being in the Flaxan dimension for nearly thousand years, she would have a more adult-like appearance.
  • Beings of Greater Strength: While supernaturally strong in her monster form, her strengh does have its limits as she was not only completely dominated by Battle Beast in their fight, but he aslo very nearly killed her, despite landing three punches beforehand.
  • Magical Physicology: As seen after she was rushed into the hospital following her severe injurires, that due to Monster Girl's unique magical physiology, the doctors were unable to provide her with proper medical treatment or even properly diagnose her condition due to her body's physiology being something that they have never seen before, let alone have any idea how to treat.

Equipment[]

  • Anti-Reverse Aging belt: Amanda would initially de-age because her curse caused her to be rebuilt with an incorrect temporal offset when she transformed back into a human. To counter this, Robot designed a special belt that stores a digital copy of certain cells before her transformation. This belt tricks her curse into using those stored cells when she turns back, thus preventing her from de-aging.

Trivia[]

  • She is based on the Marvel Comics superhero, Hulk.
  • As revealed by how her son Monax was concieved, Amanda’s monster form is biologically male.
